Ive not hunted turkeys a lot, and so i figured i would go this evening and roost one so i get in on him in the morning. I went in about 7 and a buddy of mine told me to go around the ridges and just to call on each point and maybe i would get lucky and get one today. Did that and nothing didnt hear anything make a sound so started out about 825 hitting an owl hoot on each point and still didnt hear nothing. I also went this morning after work and got in about 1000 and didnt hear anything then either. So what am I doing wrong, opening morning I did call a hen in and tried to wait it out to see if a gobbler would come in after her but run out of time had to come home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We roosted one last night with a owl call and then when we got there this morning there were 3 other birds gobbling that hadn't responded to the call last night. They all shut down by 9:30 or 10:00. So you may not be doing anything wrong sometimes they're just quiet. If at all possible being there at daylight is your best bet to hear them. When conditions are right and a bird is lonely though they are liable to gobble all day long.

I am sucessful in roosting turkeys about 1 in 7 attempts. When I have roosted turkeys, especially on large tracts of land I am allowed to hunt, I have crossed deep hollers and climbed nearly strait up bluffs to get to them the next morning before daylight. I dont do that anymore, cause most of the time there would be 3 hotter birds next to the truck the next morning:D Dont get caught up in that. Use the terrain to get in tight, and I mean tight after flydown and make it too easy for him to sneak a peek over the lip of a hill ect. Dont worry about noise ever hear a turkey come thru the woods? Just dont walk rythmically and stop every 30 yds and scratch in the leaves as you approach.
