I bought a boat from a guy in TN. At the time of sale, he told me that once he paid off the lien he'd send me the title. So I follow up with him and he now tells me that TN doesn't title boats, only register them. Is he telling the truth? I have no reason to think he's not, but I don't know the answer.

If he is telling the truth, does anyone know what I need to do to title it in KY? I called our local clerk's office and the lady I spoke with didn't seem like she knew too much about it.

Tennessee only makes us register our boats. You will need to get a bill of sale and have the guy you bought it from sign it as well as yourself, and that should get you the title to the boat in Ky, as well as you getting it registered.

And when you do that,,,make dang sure all those signatures are notorized. ;)

You need to check with the clerk again. There may be a form that needs to be filled out and notorized as well as the bill of sale. But I am not sure if that is just for the trailer, or the trailer and boat, or just the boat or what. I went through all of this when I purchased a boat in Alabama. But It was more than 3 days ago so I can't remember all of the details.
