I was just looking at NWTF's website where I found their scoring calculater. I decided to enter in a bird that I killed this year just for shits and giggles. The bird only had .75 inch spurrs and weighed 22 pounds, which isnt amazing or nothing. On the other hand, it did have 3 beards, a 9,8 and 6. If I understand it, you add them together and enter them as a total. If this is correct, my score is an 83. Is this a book bird or is my figures wrong?

It would be considered a non-typical. They have score for Typicals and Non-Typicals.

It's a good bird.

And what is the lowest possible score for a non typical to make the books?

I don't know that there is a "low" score. You killed a good bird, but in the non-typical area the score of 80 is only 1/2 way to the top. There are numbers like 160 for the non-typicials.
Again, good bird you got.

I see, Well I wouldnt consider it a trophy myself because of the spurs. I have always put more emphasis on the feet than on the beard. Three beards I guess is a little bit of a rarity but the bird still found its way to the garbage instead of my wall and I was afraid that I might have threw away something worhty of mounting. I didnt know. Thanks for the info!!!

Thats a great bird and I also came up with 83. Although a great bird it doesn't score real high as far as nontypicals go. There are quite a few birds in the book that score twice that in nontypical. These birds are real freaks of nature and have 7, 8, and even 9 beards. The nmuber 2 eastern gets 145 of its 193 points from beards alone! Congrats on the great bird!
