Any student at WKU interested in a Turkey contest this spring send me a PM. We're trying to get as many participants as possible. There will be 2 divisions, a total bird division (beard+spurs+weight), and a beard length division. Entry is $15. I know it's late notice but if interested just let me know.

Ash he changed to kybowhunter90... well derrell and i get up at 3:45 to leave from school to meet ole ash at curtsingers....get lost...meet with him head to the farm...walk to the back where ash wants to set up..i decide we should move down over the hill to the corner of the field to where ash says they are roosting, we set up and as i walk back from postin up B-mobile and she-mobile i see a bird on roost about 40 yards into the woods...i motion to derrell who is 20 yds up the fence line that there is a bird in the tree.. so i sit down make a few soft calls and we hear a gobble WAY off in the distance...then i make another and the woods comes ALIVE not 60yds from us....must have been at least 5 different birds gobblin...so i cut into em real hard and they all fire up again...so eventually they pitch down to the other side of the bowl and we all think we are screwed...but somehow we got em turned back around..at about 7:30 i see a hen pop up over the hill about 8yds away to the left then a white head and another white head....then they see B-mobile...and i think they got a little scared so back over the hill they go....then the old raspy and i mean RASPY hen starts yelpin to em....she was the WORST sounding hen i have ever heard...sounded like a box call that was fallin apart...anyway...so they go back down in the holler and are gobblin.....then derrell starts callin with me and about 10 mintues later a hen pops out in the field bout 20 yds. behind the decoys...walks up around them to about 20yds from derrell, turns and goes back where she was...so we start purrin and puttin, and sure enough here comes the "gobblers" back....one lets a gobble out about 30 yards away and i think old Ash is comin outa his pants...they work their way up to the edge of the woods and derrell can see em but ash and i can't....he figured since we weren't shootin he'd go ahead and lay the smack down on him at about 35yds. i jump up to see about 20 flyin through the woods and scream "did you get him?" n derrell says "hell yeah i got him!" we run down...and its a jake.....fun hunt...too bad he wasn't a long beard....

Weight-17lbs. Beard-3.5in. Spurs- 1/2 in.

Since just about everybody else is entering their school, I'll go ahead and enter mine. UK, or at least one student, is officially entered into this bloodbath! Any other wildcats, I need some backup because I'm obviously outnumbered here. Whenever I get my bird, I'll post him on here. I like this idea, though. We definitely need to do this for our remaining years. I've got at least two years left to go...hopefully that means at least 4 more turkeys :)

Here is a bird from a WKU alumni (1999).

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/bigbuck39/DoubleT2009bird.jpg

21 lbs. 10.75" beard. 1" spurs.

He came in to a mouth call, then flew up into a tree after gobbling and being scared by a coyote, then flew out and strutted around right behind me. I was able to turn on him and get a shot before he skinned outta there.
