This is the saddest thing I have seen in a long time. I got up this morning to scout a place on Peabody that I've been planning to hunt later into next week. I got out of the truck....birds gobbling their heads off! I stood there...got me a dip...feeling good. I walked 60 yards off the gravel road right up on a meth lab!! Right there, tucked up under a ceder tree that was knocked down by the ice storm. So I called 911 to ask the dispatcher to connect me with the state police, and she said...and I quote. " Don't call the state police, they won't come out there, you need to call the sheriff's office, but they won't be in until 9 am". I thought ...is that it??!?!? This is WHERE I FRIGGIN TURKEY HUNT!!!!! So...it's like 6:40 am. I called the game warden...got him out of bed I think....and told him what happened. He said, and I quote. " 9 am??!! Are you serious? That's crazy! I'll call you back in a minute." After about..well..a minute he called back and said, "stay where you are...on our way." About 10 minutes later there where sheriff deputies jumping round that place like jack abbits. That's what I'm talking about!

I figured when you call 911 and say I found a meth lab they would be on it like white on rice. Be careful when you're hunting. Your lucky no one was out there cooking meth when you stumbled on that spot. I had an officer tell me that if I was ever out and even suspected some thing was going on to get out b/c those meth heads will shoot you...

Be careful on the Ohio county portion of Peabody, also.

This is the exact situation that makes it necessary to carry your self defense! I know we batted it around when the legislators tried to get a law on the books, but 911 can only pick up the pieces, you must be able and willing to protect yourself.

Agreed.....you know what the sad thing is. I just took an 11 year old boy in there during youth season!!!!!!!!!!

There has been 4 dead bodies found on the road I hunt in Muhlenburg in the last year. You better believe when I hunt in there I am packing a pistol. I will pay a fine rather than try to fight off some crazed cranker with an 870 with #6's.

I sure hope they can put the pieces together and connect a person to that meth lab and cuff em and stuff em! that's ridiculous and extremely dangerous. Be careful out there guys and go get 'em this weekend!

Are you talking about Moorman Cemetry Road. If so there was one heluva buck in there this fall. I saw him cross 431 out of those bottoms a couple times.

There are some good bucks in there for sure. The #6 KY typical came from that farm a few years ago, It scored 186.

I was going north to owensboro both times. He crossed from the right side to the left both times. The first time I saw him was in sept. about 9pm. Saw him again a couple weeks later just before daylight. I'd say mid to upper 160's....that's being conservative.

I don't understand. The dispatchers should have sent a sheriff's deputy in route. 24-7 there is a deputy on duty here in the county. That doesn't make alot of sense.

you would think the first person you called would ahve jumped on it (state) atleast for a the publicity and to try and give them on up on the county and city boys...

I agree.....the deputy that "investigated" the scene did a very good job I thought. And I was VERY pleased with the CO jumping all over it. But the dispatcher, whom ever she was really didn't seem too concerned. Maybe because I told her where I was at..I don't know. Drug distribution, and for that matter use goes against every bone in my body, as I'm sure it does for most folks. But when people cook that sh*t in their homes that's one thing. But we are talking about a public, regulated use area. Most folks could probably care less what happens out there. But to me, Peabody holds a very dear place in my collective hunting heart. And it's disappearing fast. Things like this will shut it down the rest of the way if it keeps on. When I was a kid there where something in the neighborhood of 25,000 acres and I basically lived out there, without any worries at all. Do these people really not have a soul?? I have always wondered what make people go into law enforcement. They're underpaid, overworked, and for the most part not well respected. Now I know the answer to my own question. This morning made me want to become an officer.

I agree peabody is great, and i hunt and fish out there quite a bit. The bad thing is, the penalties are not near strict enough when someone is actually caught. A first time offender i understand a little bit more, give them a chance to get off of it, cause it is a disease. But the second time put them away for a little while and make them think about it. What really makes me mad is when they cook in their home, with kids there. David Parnell is a guy who use to be a big time meth addict, he shot himself in the head and lived. He now goes around the country doing a program on meth and other drugs. Very powerful message he has. Anyways once you see it, i have no idea how people does it. If you havent seen his program i highly suggest you go if you ever have the chance. Learned lots of stuff i never had a clue about. He has been around here a few times i know of.

leave the pistol in your pocket. If he is close enough to be a threat, then the 870 with #6's will be much more effective at stopping anyone. easier to hit a moving target with it as well.
I used to hunt peabody years ago. we found one or two meth labs out there and back then we didn't have any idea what the heck they were. we ran into a CO one day and ask him about it. He explained the process and told us that, at the time, they were only finding a few a year on there.

I found a non working meth lab on my property last winter squirrel hunting. We called the sherriff's office twice and never herd from them again. We've found several dried up pot seedlings and reported them too. Nothing ever came from that either. The sherriff's main campain speech was how he was going to clamp down on drugs and meth labs.

I found a little pot farm back in the fall when scouting or deer. state police came and dug it all up. left their business card in case the farmers wanted to come collect their plants. ;)

Look for 20oz mountian dew bottles, with the caps on them, with about a 3/16th hole drilled in the center of the cap. These are "smoke bottles". There may but a length of tubing sticking out of the hole. If there have been used the inside of the bottle will be burned. Coffee filters placed over mason jars with rubberbands. Punctured arasol starter fluid cans. Usually gas cans are used to store the anhydrous. But alot of the are getting the amonioum nitrate out of fertilized....so keep an eye out for empty 40 lb fertilizer bags. Stripped lithium batteries that look like they where whittled with a knife. Meth cookers use mountain dew bottles almost exclusively. Not sure why. Alot of cookers keep stray dogs around their cook sites. They keep them around with dog food.
What I wonder is why the dispatcher said not to call the State Police.
They will respond anywhere no matter if it is on Peabody or any where.
I know there are only a few people that are certified to clean up a Meth Lab and Haz. Waste Containers that they can be put in after they have been neutralized and overpacked. These containers are at the State Police Post.

Ive dealt with the worlds worse dispatchers at times also. Not all of them are illiterate though. Growing up in a family of State Troopers, trust me,they'd be more than willing to show up and help at any hour. I'd recommend filing a complaint"im sure it will not do any good". Store KSP nearest post in your cell phone and call them directly. Most of your CO will be willing to help as well. ;)
