I stayed at sandestin resort. We rented a condo from VRBO.com. I have used this site 2 times and have had great results both times.

For the rooms, check on line. Any of the restaurants would be good, try Fudpuckers.:D

when it comes to destin its location, location, location. traffic gets bad and some of their attractions are spread out so find the ones your interested in.

they have a nice bass pro shop down there. if you like to fish get a condo by a pier and you wont have to buy a fishing license.

good luck.

We have been almost every year for the last 8 or 9 years.

The eateries run the gamut from stuff like Joe's Crab Shack to 5 star restaurants. Dewey Destin's, Captain Dave's, Captain Kid's (if you want a monster seafood buffet), Old Bay Steamer over in Fort Walton. There are a lot of good places to stuff yourself.

For as busy as Destin is, I've never really found a whole lot to do down there. There are tons of outlet stores and shopping if that is your thing (it's not mine) and several nice courses if you like to play golf. The Bass Pro is 99% geared for gulf fishing. They have a Gulf World in Fort Walton that is like a mini Sea World.

We're heading down again this summer as well. Haven't decided on a place to stay yet. Working on getting a freind of a freind of a freind's condo...but you know how that goes. Planning on taking a bay fishing trip. Did it once and had a ball. Went pier fishing the last time we were there, but didn't catch anything. Some guys on the end of the pier were catching tarpon, though. Definately eat at the Back Porch. Lobster stuffed mahi-mahi...mmmmmmm.

My family owns a house about 2 hours east of Destin on an island called St George Island. if you are not intersted in fighting the crowds and having more of a family experieince, you should try it. it is a barrier island off teh coast by Appalachicola. Fishing is great, restaurants are easy to get in, beaches are relatively empty and you can catch reds speck, blues and other kinds of fish from teh beach without fighting people. It really is a great place to stay

Yeah, St. George Island is nice. There is an old bridge you can fish off of. I caught some nice sea trout, big flounder, alot of other stuff. Had a great time. Check that place out if you go.:D

Fudpuckers SUCKS. It is over price for what you get and the taste isn't all that great either. You definately pay for the alligator experience.

We always stay at either Majestic Sun or Sandestin. Harry T's is my favorite resturant in the area.

that is a pretty sweet little beach community. if you are not interested in bar hopping.

it would be a good place to go to relax.

+1 for Fudpuckers. Must go at least once. Also, there's a barbecue place somewhere in Destin along the main road. It's a little hole in the wall but I remember it was really good.

We never got bored. The times the family and I have driven down there, mostly to Fort Walton Beach, we were going with the intention of doing as little as possible. Hang out on the beach, visit some local attractions, walk around, sit on our balcony overlooking the ocean and enjoy the sea air and the cold Coronas.

There used to be a hotel on Okaloosa Island at Ft. Walton called The Conquistador. It was relatively small compared to the monstrosities lined up along the beach and close to the end where the air force gate was. The place was older but it was small, the rooms were great with fantastic balconies overlooking the water, a boardwalk going to the beach, a pool, and a friendly staff with a small business kind of family run feel. Sadly, it was torn down a few years ago to make room for another giant tower. It was the only place we'd even consider staying. The next time we go, I don't know where we'll stay.

Just spent 10 days on Okaloosa Island in Ft. Walton withthe kids for Spring Break last week. (about 5 minutes from Destin).

We stayed at a place called Waterscapes and absolutely loved it. Great condo that looked out over the beach. Pool was out of sight too.

Great oysters at AJ'S Seafood and Oster Bar.

McGuirers Irish pub and brewery was top notch.

Absolutely go to Anglers Bar and Grille on the pier on Sundays for their Crawfish Broil. Good Lord it was good eatin'.

Old Bay Steamer is very good dining.

Fudpuckers is good oceanside bar food.

Some of my coworkers go to Waterscapes. They have said that it is fantastic and they get pretty good rates, too.

I just got back from Florida for the kids spring break....we stayed a couple of days with a good friend of mine that lives in clearwater....they have beautiful beaches down there..he took us to a couple of smaller white sand beaches that had very little pressure..also Clearwater wasn't crowded sun or monday....we also caught alot of fish from pier 60 mackerel, snook, stingrays and catfish. Frenchys on the beach was good eating.

With kids I ended up a week in Orlando went to sea world and we really enjoyed it. We also ate at the BB King Blues Club and seen the All Star Band expensive but one of the best nights of food and entertainment Ive ever had. We stayed at a Condo Resort called Floridays it was really nice and not too bad a 1300 a week and that included tickets to Sea world and Bush gardens. Tampa was also nice . Bush Gardens was a zoo pretty much however the kids liked the roller coasters. It was a fun time and I will make Florida a regular vacation spot for a while.......

Breakfast - Another Broken Egg and the Doughnut Hole

Loved the fried oysters (and there was a bunch) at Fisherman's Wharf

We stay at Wyndham Majestic Sun. Not sure if they rent or not.

I've used VRBO.com before for a western trip and liked where we stayed..

We used VRBO to find our condo at Waterscapes. They were almost giving it away. Place was only about 25% filled all week (and it is huge). Great time to get great rates.

I am not a huge fan of Florida. However, the place we stayed was so dang nice, I'm definitely going back.

Go to Baytowne Wharf is Sandestin. It's kind of it's own little village inside a resort. They have several restaurants ranging from finer dining to Pizza. There is also several bars with live music and good bands. There are several shops ranging from kids stuff to wine stores. At night, there are vendors outside where you can get beer and walk around. It was much better than anything in Destin.

We ate at the Marlin Grill. It was expensive, but more than worth it. They have a hickory grilled Filet that is awesome. I had the red snapper and it was very good. Their service and atmosphere is A+. I wouldn't take kids here, it's too expensive, but would be great for a night out with the wife.

We went to a dueling piano bar. They're a little cheesy, but it was some of the most fun I've had in a bar. It was busy, but not overly crowded. I never had to wait in line for the bathroom or anything like that. One of the player's was from Western Kentucky University, so he played a lot of our requests. There were several people from around the south there and the players started playing fight songs for tips. The LSU, UT, and Bama fans were throwing in hundreds to top each other. It got a little wild, but all in good fun. I did get him to play the UK fight song, but that didn't last long. I talked a little trash with opposing fans, but we all got along.

The best place we ate in Destin was McQuire's. Their lamb chops were very good. They have very good quality cuts of meats and a huge assortment of burgers on the menu. The whole place is covered with dollar bills people sign and stick on the ceiling and/or walls. They have their own beer and it was pretty good also.

Ate at Captain Kids. The food was average, but it's a buffet. You can eat as many crablegs as you want. They kept the buffet well stocked and service was good. The food was nothing special.

Went to Hog's Breath. For some reason, I got BBQ. It was alright, but you're not going to impress a western KY man with BBQ. The place was kind of small, but we went early. I wouldn't want to be there when it was crowded.

We ate at the Crab Trap (I think). The food was above average and the service was good. I had no compaints about it.

The Back Porch was pretty good, but we couldn't really eat because the place was the seventh layer of hell. I think it would have been good, but it was so overcrowded and we were put outside in a place where there was no breeze. Overall it was a miserable experience.

I can't remember where we stayed, but the beaches were pretty small and crowded. Baytowne Wharf was one of my favorite places I've been, but overall I didn't care for destin. I don't like the touristy stuff like Ron's Surf shop or those places. I don't care for chain restaurants on vacation.

If I go back, I will stay in the Baytowne Wharf area and probably go to Destin only to eat at McQuire's. If you want a quiet family vacation, check out Cape San Blas. It's in northwest Florida. The beaches are huge and the crowds are nonexistant. They're aren't many restaurants, but there are a couple of excellent ones including Toucan's and Loggerheads.

Just my 2 cents. Sorry about the Novel.
