Just got back yesterday. Awesome hunt between the four of us we took 5 birds including three within the first five hours of the hunt. Only 1 that looks to be a rio the others were more on the hybrid side. We had decent weather, birds are just starting to split up and work to calling. Should be awesome for those of you going out within the next couple of weeks. Couple of us still have a tag left we may try to go back in a couple of weeks. All in all we had a blast. Enjoy the pics. For those that care I'm the guy in the middle of the first pic. Last pic is a bonus pic, that deer was taken by the landowner December of '06, he just got him back from the taxidermist a few weeks ago.

Glad to see you guys had some luck. Yea that is the only problem with Kansas is you are going to run into and lot of hybrid birds. I am heading out to Kansas in a few weeks and sure was glad to hear that birds are breaking up a little.

I will be hunting in Washington Co up around Waterville. Which is in the North East part of the state real close to Neb. The neareast town is Marysville.

We were in North Central Kansas in Jewell County. Last year all the birds I seen seem to have been rio's and according to KDWP the hybrids should have been well to our east, but they may need to revise that map because the proofs in the pics. Good luck to all that are headed that way.

I'd say you just killed some dark colored rios in Jewell. I've got several birds from the central part of KS from 2000-2002 that are colored very similar to those. There is a wide variety in their coloration just like merriams. These 2 birds were killed further west from you yet they are very different and definately rios.
