seeing the same thing, I think that this cooler weather has put the gobbling to more of a minimum than anything. As far as the breeding goes I think they are breeding as much as they were 1 week 2 weeks ago. But with it raining every other day and staying cool, the birds I think don't seem to be as vocal. Maybe after today we are going to get a short break on the weather, and some sun shine before Saturday maybe they will get to gobbling better or at least I hope so

I'm up in the Trans-Bluegrass, north of Cynthiana. Saturday was filled with hot gobbling and then Sunday (after the rain and wind) they were deadly quiet. However, there were a lot of single gobblers out roaming. I saw them on my place and rolling around Bracken County in the truck.

Yes, there were a lot of single hens out roaming too, and that is a really good news. That means they're off tending nests and are going to be slipping away from the gobbler shortly after flydown.

What my guess is that the gobblers will be getting plenty hot come Opening Weekend. This is a late start to the season. In some years the 18th would be day 5 or later. I'm hoping for a good start.

I found a Turkey nest, with two eggs in it, while Mushroom hunting last week. Also another found nest site on my property, and I see the hen in the back field everyday. Still hear "some" gobbling but not as much.

I scouted areas in Breckinridge Co Monday, during the morning the gobbles were very quite and soft. I went back around 2 PM and they were going crazy. I think it was the storm front shocking them into gobbles, but they were going wild. Both morning and afternoon I saw 3 groups of toms (2-3 birds in group) strutting together, with the jakes running around like teenage boys. I watched the reaction of two groups of hens, they made no movement to the toms, no matter how hard they strutted and called. I think we may hit this thing just right for a good opening morning this saturday.

Good Luck..

I agree less gobbling on the roost than earlier, but the midday action has been better. With the late start on the state, I'm predicting an all time record harvest. By May, the toms will be lonely as ever making them too easy.

Good luck Saturday everyone!

yea i hunted down below nashville last weekend and on sat. only heard one on the roost but had one hot from 11:00 to about 1:00 until we bumped him in a green field but my buddy killed one sunday morning a 6:45 cmt that was all alone and it weighed 25lbs had 10 inch beard and 1 1/2 inch spurs largest spurs I had ever been a part of I hope they do get fired back up but its the same old thing we dont get to start until the middle of the rut and that stinks this year seems to be different the way birds have been acting they have stayed in the woods alot longer than years past and have not split up as early as before but good luck to all.

From what I have seen and heard in the field, the hens are breaking up into smaller groups and many are out looking for nests and laying eggs. With the season coming in a little later, I just think we are farther along than we were this time last year for my area strictly based upon the date. In addition, I have noticed the gobblers in my area are moving around a lot as well. One day they are on this ridge, the next day they are a half a mile away, most likely following the hens as they move around on different food sources, etc. The area I plan to hunt opening day was void of gobbling action on Sunday but there was some gobbling across the road on both sides of me. All was quiet after fly down. In addition, I drove down the road on the way home just a short way and saw 3 hens and ole tater head struttin to beat the band. He was on my side of the road and never made a sound. I have a load of #4's I want to show him from my new smoke pole. :D

Was out mushroom hunting today at 9 and heard a bird gobble, later while walking out of that farm bumped a gobbler, a jake and 3 hens in a field--then drove to another farm about 2 and was two gobblers fully strutting with 6-8 hens in a field next to where we found the mushrooms
