The top 2 look like cherry burl........but, there is a very, very, slim chance....that I could be wrong, but I don't think so. After all, I was the Timberstrand champion in tree species identification by wood samples, at the Quicksand experimental station.......back in 2002.:D

I don't think I've ever seen a cherry burl like that. Very nice! I sawed down a big dead sycamore in my yard yesterday and think I'll be able to get a few spalted blocks from it. I'm lookin forward to turnin it this summer.

I see spalted maple pretty often, but I've never seen sycamore that way. Post the pics when ya get it done! Small blocks of wood can be quickly dried in a microwave.

Simply type "drying wood in a microwave" into Google, lots of articles will come up.

Years ago I experimented on my own when I needed a dry "stretcher" for an oak chair I was making. The microwave worked great! I also learned that wood will burn in a microwave and release HUGE amounts of smoke!:D

How does the Osage Orange do? I have some pretty big chunks from the Ice storm.

it does pretty good but it is a very hard wood. It can be pretty difficult to work with.

Be wary of trying the microwave trick for calls, it tends to open up the pores of the wood too quickly and will make for a dead call with very little resonance.
