These are the most realistic decoys I have ever seen. They are pricy with a two week delivery but dang they look real. Jake $160 Hen $119

These are Dave Smith Decoys. Do a search and you'll find his web site. They also make water fowl decoys. I'd say the only decoys better than these are the actual mounts.

My cousin in Florida got one this year, first time I had ever seen one. They look so real! He had it out the morning I killed mine down there and three toms came running in....two left! The detail is crazy, little bit annoying to carry since they won't fold up but they are very realistic!

I just have to ask.
How much greater a success rate do theese achieve for their owners? What percentage increase versus a less "lifelike" $30 decoy? I would just have a hard time justifying paying that much money considering I'm trying to fool a naturally skiddish and wary bird that: 1. Has a brain the size of a walnut, with no resoning ability whatsoever to distinguish a decoy from a real bird. 2. Is lucky to live 3 years, and while it can respond to pressure from hunters, does not have the same level of memory and learning from year to year as a mature whitetail buck. Who I have seen on numerous occasion on TV attack a very unlife-like looking decoy.
Not trying to rain on your guys' parade, just have to question if the ends, justify the mean?

While I don't agree totally with you, I will concede that the $9 foam hen decoy I have used for years and years still pulls gobblers in, despite the fact it has numerous shot holes in it and is over 6 years old. Turkey hunting, like modern deer hunting has become a money racket for the newest technology. It's hard to imagine how my papaw killed turkeys years ago in blue jeans, flannel shirt, walnut stocked shotgun with a fixed full choke, and a homemade scratch call.

I just don't think a gobbler is any more fooled by a $160 decoy than by a $9 decoy. I don't think a gobbler looks at a decoy and reasons that it is a fake and walks away. They just don't have that kind of brain power. More likely something just isn't natural in the surrounding area, or the decoy isn't moving and so appears to be on alert, or something else just isn't right. Someone could argue that the $160 decoy would look "more right" than a $9 one and thats fine. IMO, the percieved reward doesn't justify the capital expense.
On a side note, I once watched Bill Jordan and Kevin Harvick call in 2 toms to a mounted hen deke that had no head. The birds didn't seem to care.

The hen is the most realistic that I've ever seen. Well, except, of course for the chopped off legs. lol
However, I'm with Iceman. My short $20 Delta feeding hen gets it done. Actually, I have six Delta dekes, which I use in various combinations, but never all at the same time!
It ain't a goose set. lol

Anyone that says that more life like or realistic decoys dont improve your odds, has simply never used one.

I know around 20 dead gobblers that would disagree with you.
Who died and made you the great sage of turkey hunting and decoy expertise?

Not saying your decoys don't work. Simply saying more realistic decoys do make a very big difference.

If you've never hunted over a real hen, mounted, you are missing out. We've been making a few at the shop. We hunted over them a little last year and it is simply amazing.

I have to disagree. I think your attributing way too much brain power to a turkey. That being said, I can't prove you wrong because I'm not willing to shell out that kind of cash, when I've seen a 3 year old gobbler attempt to mount a $20 Delta decoy 20 yards from my head.

Good points made and appreciate the feed back. I thought some might be interested in the dekes. I know most would not be due to the cost. I found them last night on-line while playing on the net.
I don't really have much experience with using dekes in Alabama. Bama just changed the law to allow dekes a few years ago. My experience with dekes in Bama has been mixed. I have had some birds come in and some not like the set up. Like someone said, it was probably something out of place instead of the deke. We have a very long season with a generous 5 bird limit. To say our birds have it easy would be a under statement. I feel like they are one of the hardest and most educated turkeys in the country to kill. I personally will purchase a set of these dekes next season just because they look real. It might not amount to a hill of beans to the turkey's I hunt. I know I'll have more confidence to use one just because it looks real. I think that's why the dekes will appeal to some and the price we turn others away. That's my 2 cent on the dekes.

I have the hen & the jake & they are outstanding deeks.
Do you need em??, nope, but they sure give you the added confidence of knowing it wasn't the deek that made him move on.

Well. I've seen gobblers do all that to foam decoys also. It just depends on the situation. Unless a bird has never done anything but run over to a lifelike decoy ready to rumble, I personally don't see why I should lay out that kind of cash. Just my opinion, to each his own.
Dang good-lookin' dekes Dave Smith makes and well worth the $$$ if you don't mind to pay it.

I would be afraid to use those real life like decoys for fear of someone shooting them:eek:. I would not place they directly in front of me.
