To all sportsmen: If you use any of the WMA's that you like to have for hunting or fishing you need to make note. A effort is being made to get the Army Corp of Engineers to release the KDFWL of the lease they now have on a the Auxier Flats area of Paintsville Lake to a private investor to build a water park, cabins, lodge and whatever else he see fit to build on it. He started out wanting only 110 acres and now is ready to ask for over 700 acres and has plans to include more in the future building cabins on up the WMA. He wants only the areas now used by hunters, COULD THIS BE WORK OF THE ANTI's??? Your WMA could be next. We need letters and lots of them sent to the following requesting that this land remain as part of the WMA area and that no hunting land be given up to such projects on Paintsville Lake or any other Corp properties. Send letters to: US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS , Att: Col. John D. Rivenburgh, 502 8th St., Huntington, WV 25701-2070
PLEASE PASS THIS TO ANY OF YOUR Friends who don't have computer knowledge of such happenings.

Folks, for those of you who live far away from Auxier Flats, please don't just say" it's not near me why worry?"...Just think of the prime public hunting and fishing we have that developers would just love to pave over or ruin.
YOUR favorite WMA may be next. Lets support our fellow Kentuckians on this and write some letters. Polite and civil of course but FIRM!!

It's not only the Paintsville WMA that is being looked at. I have heard from some reputable sources that Green River and two others (I can't remember the names) are being looked at as well. In my opinion it boils down to increasing tourism dollars, which I really don't have a problem with; except when the are taking the areas that are best suited for hunting and/or just getting away from the crowds.
Address noted and letter is on the way.

Highbow-- I just recieved another reply from the NRA legal deptmartment. They seem interested in helping with the Flats and with the Ashland mess.
Can you put together a complete, and precise analogy of the Flats situation and get to these individuals. Deal strictly with facts and not opinions for best results. If you call that number, they may have a fax number or maybe you could email it to them.
Here's a copy of the letter with the contacts names and numbers.
Thank you for contacting NRA-ILA and for bringing this information to
our attention. I have taken the liberty of forwarding your message to
NRA-ILA's Kentucky state liaison for further review. If you need
additional assistance with this matter, please feel free to contact
Kentucky liaison Tara Reilly Mica directly at (703) 267-1219, or her
assistant Heidi Keesling at (703) 267-1210.
Sincerely,
Rebecca A. Williams

Nat where did you get this info? I just tried to call Bob, he's out west, he'll be back on Oct. 30th. I called the judge, he's out also.

Birdman, you'll need to call me. This came from a very good source that knows much more than is being given to the public. It happened and just as I thought it is only a start.
