Sunday morning a friend and I went out scouting and heard and saw several gobblers (20+) which got both of us fired up. I went back on Monday morning after the cold front pushed through and heard/saw nothing and it was the same story Tuesday morning and this morning (except for a lone hen). Starting to get worried I called some other hunters to boost my spirits and they said they were seeing the same thing. Would this cold front effect them this much? Are you guys seeing a lot of hens off by themselves?

The cold front might make them a little tight lipped, but it isn't going to stop them from breeding. I'm seeing hens out walking by themselves, which is good. Talking to farmers where I hunt, they're saying the same thing. A ton of birds with thick beards, and a lot of hens.

Getting time to start breaking off from the large groups. A group of about 30 we have been seeing consistently on the farm has appeared to break up. Lots of loners and pairs now.

I left from Muhlenberg this afternoon going to Bowling Green down the parkway and seen atleast 10 different toms strutting in fields. This was after 5 this afternoon also...I have been seeing some lone hens in fields and that is great! lone hens=nesting=lone gobblers! can't wait!

I really staretd noticing alot of gobblers by themselves this weekend during the youth hunt. Even the groups were smaller than the week prior.

Same story here..........I believe we will hit the season perfectly for hunters!! Henned up birds won't be a problem if things continue. Looks to be that the breeding is a little ahead of schedule which should translate to lonely gobblers early in the season...........can't wait!!!

Hens are already building nests. We have had two lone hens come and eat around mid day for a week now and then head off in the same direction each day. One hen is larger than the other or I would have thought it was the same one. I suppose they are nesting already which will be great if the gobblers hurry up and get lonely.
