Killed this bird Sunday morning at about 8:30. Came in from about 300-400 yards away. Didnt hear a single bird gobbling on the limb. Went and set up on a ridge with a decent amount of sign. After about 15-20 minutes I heard a bird gobble WAY off. I hit the call a few times and waited. About 10 minutes later he sounded off again, seemingly closer. I called sparingly for the next 15-20 minutes and when he gobbled again he was about 100 yards behind me, coming from the direction I walked in. He came into view and strutted and gobbled for about 15 minutes, not coming any closer. I clucked and purred several times, he gobbled his fool head off at every sound. Finally I just shut up on him and he decided to come look for the hen that was making all the noise. The rest is history..... In Area 2 btw.......... 23 lbs, 10 1/4 beard, spurs were 1 1/4 and 1 1/8 respectively....

Congratulations, were you in the sw part of 2? Nice looking bird.

I"ll tell you EXACTLY where I was at. Go down Carpenter Test Road until the road splits. There will be a sign for "Boone Cemetary", turn right. Follow the gravel road until you go past the powerline AND the gas line. You will be in Area 4 until you cross the gas line. Once you pass the gas line, its about a quarter mile or so. Go past the big green electrical box, which is on your left, and proceed to the top of the ridge. On the right hand side of the road is a huge cliff line that you can see West Point from. I got out on the left side and walked near the top of the ridge for about 200 yards or so. There was an old logging road I followed for the most part, but there were alot of trees across it. Anyway, as you proceed down this road, to the right will be a big drain and another long ridge system. Its fairly open, with alot of hardwoods. I left my Bud and Betty;s glass call and striker at the base of the tree!!!!!!!!!!!

HA2 is a very fine area with a lot of wildlife in it. I have talked with the gas guys that have been working out there and they said that they are over run with turkeys on that ridge. I bow hunted that area with a passion last season, and took a mighty fine Doe. Hopefully it will be open this weekend so I will be able to get myself and son up in there.

Well, I wasted a day off. About 80 people showed up for the drawing today and they had 5 spots available for Saturday and 38 for Sunday. Needless to say, we didn't make the cut. It appeared that the closer you were to the people drawing, the more likely you were to get drawn. All the guys sitting at the table got drawn. Could have been coincidence, i guess.

They should refine that process and do a draw like they do the deer hunt.

Finally killed my first Fort Knox turkey @ 0830 Sunday morning. He came in from a few hundred yards away, with 3 or 4 others. I unfortunately shot a small one, but big body for a jake --- 17.1lb, 4 inch beard, and 1/2 inch spurs. I was very pleased, since I drove 2.5 hours on Friday to put in for the draw, was only drawn for Sunday, then got up at 3am Sunday and drove back down to hunt. It was worth it.
