I haven't tried 777 but I don't care for Pyrodex because it is too meessy & corrosive. I much prefer CleanShot. You can shoot 20 times with CleanShot & your barrel won't be as dirty as only one shot with Pyrodex. The company that makes CleanShot has changed names. I'll post the new one as soon as I find it.

I use Pyrodex and like it, but I haven't tried cleanshot. I switched from blackpowder, and I can tell you Pyrodex is alot better in regards to cleaning, and less fouling when shooting several times. No matter what they say you can not switch the two grain for grain. I had to up my charge 10 grains I beleive, to get the same out of it.

I still use black powder just because I've got a cabinet full of the stuff & am too cheap to throw it away.

Goex has some stuff out called "Clear Shot" which sometimes gets confused with "Clean Shot". Last season I loaded a revolver with CLEAR shot & after the early season disassembled it, took out the nipples & pushed the loads out. I was too lazy to shoot it & clean it. Anyway, the powder had turned to a rusty brown color over the weekend. Don't think it was rust, but I sure didn't like pushing that stuff outta my gun.

I'll go back to BP, I can push to entire load out and it looks like what I put in the first time.

Over the years I have shot them all. Some are still on the market and some have fallen to the wayside.

If you are shooting a flintlock you just about have to use black powder unless you want to carry two different powders (black and a substitute) to duplex your loads. I'll just carry black, thank you.

If you are using an in-line, I have become quite smitten by Triple 7. It is hotter than black and hotter than Pyrodex when compared grain for grain. Cleans up with just water and is not as corrosive as any of the others out there, BUT it does have corrosive properties. So you still got to clean your gun.

Good luck

I don't shop at Wal-mart, so I don't know if they carry 777 or not. It is not in pellet form as of now.

The Walmart in Mayfield carries the 777, and it is in loose powder.
