Pro-gun Democrats oppose new "assault weapon" ban
Sixty-five House Democrats said Wednesday that they would oppose any attempt by the Obama administration to revive a ban on military-style weapons that President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1994 and President George W. Bush let expire. The pro-gun Democrats, led by Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., wrote Attorney General Eric Holder that they would "actively oppose any effort to reinstate the 1994 ban, or to pass any similar law."

You wont get any comments about this, it shows Dem's in a positive light. Just like the two Dem Sen.s that dealt with the DLA on the "brass" issue, no kudo's for them. But if you post a false report about Dem's, especially if it has to do with gun control, you will have 4 pages of comments before days end. The "pilots guns taken away" is but one example. Ok, now that I have posted, there will no doubt be a nastygram posted by one of the "posse" that follow my posts, but I have broad shoulders.

I will give them a big "Thank You, Thank You very much!" Let's hope they continue with this line of thinking when it comes to Gun Legislation.

Grouser, Im not sure who you are talking about because I dont have time to follow any particular person that post on here.IM a proud Republican but I vote for the person and their values. With that being said, when the Dems do a good job I will acknowledge them for their efforts. At the same time when they do a bad job(IMO) I will be the first in line to bash them!! In all fairness I will do the same to my elected officials that are Republican.
In this case I am proud to see those Americans, that are Democrats, stand for what rights our Constitution gives us.

Great to hear this!!! I would say that these are the "hold outs" from the democrats of yeaterday that have yet to be hijacked by the far left. Democrats like my papa was. Pro-gun pro-life ect. What should be mentioned about this is that is it BIG news. What does that say about the direction of the party when elected dems that stand up for gun rights makes BIG news? Those that post on here should call and voice their support for these dems. Time for you guys to make some noise in your own party so that this becomes common rather that an exception. In other words quit supporting the most anti-gun president in history just because he is a democrat.

I did not post for the purpose of "Republican vs. Democrat" forum banter/bashing/hyperbole/etc....
I was merely posting a positive news item reguarding OUR 2nd Amendment Rights.

Excellent post... now we all know why Pelosi will not bring it up for a vote.
My Indiana 8th District congressman Brad Ellsworth (Vanderburg county ex-sheriff) is a part of this bunch. Yes, he is a Democrat and other than voting for the 2nd "spendulous package" he will get my vote in 2010.

i have no problem at al voteing dem as long as there not little left wing weenies.as most are now.
I say congrats to the Dems, BUT, if you look at who they are you will see most are up for relection next yr. The southern dems need to take back control of their party.
These guys both dems and reps vote the way they are told or allowed buy their party and what is best for their carriers, most dont vote their conscience.
Over the last few years I couldnt claim the reps and I certianly am not a dem but it looks like the reps are starting to get some backbone and becoming fiscally responsible.
Otherwise I say we vote the whole lot out and make 1 term limits.
Did you know that while most of us struggle to make ends meet congress gave themselves their annual cost of living pay increase of over $4500. And they ask US to make sacrifaces?

I have no problem giving credit where it is due either. Glad to see elected officials doing thier job. I don't care which party it is, they're elected by us for us!

Maybe they are hearing from their own constituents and listening. The fact that it made news was that is is unusual for Democrats to be against gun bans.....in general. Keep an eye on your NRA magazine this summer and see which party is for what in the bills that will be coming down the pike.

Regarding ANY 2nd Amendment issue, I feel it isn't whether they are Democrats or Republicans that matter, as much as, what is the "right thing" to do for our country.

No "most" about it.
ALL Representatives are up for re-election EVERY two years. That would be 2010 for ALL ..
From my congressman..
Dear Friend,
As a former law enforcement officer and life-long hunter, I value our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Gun ownership and hunting is a way of life for people here in Indiana; a tradition passed down from generation to generation. We must ensure that this way of life is preserved for our children, grandchildren, and future generations of Americans. So last week, I joined a new, bipartisan group dedicated to protecting our Second Amendment rights in Congress.
The Second Amendment Task Force was created to monitor legislation in Congress related to the Second Amendment. The bipartisan group, which consists of 6 Democrats and 6 Republicans, will work to promote legislation that protects the Second Amendment and fight any bill that threatens our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
We took action this week; making it clear to Attorney General Eric Holder that any attempts to reinstate a ban on assault weapons would be met with fierce, bipartisan resistance in Congress.
I am proud of the A rating I received from the National Rifle Association, and I will continue to protect our Second Amendment rights by opposing any attempts to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
Sincerely,
Brad Ellsworth

Compared to everything else they've done in the last two months, this is the only thing thats given them a positive image. But in light of the situation,I think a lot of Dems are seeing the light and showing they are not in line with this "new" administration. IMO, I think alot of these Dem are realizing they've been dooped right along with thier constituents and now want a "refund" on that snake oil

I have no problem saying good job
I'm glad to hear that some democrats apparently have not completely lost their mind, but lets not get carried away with the back patting here. That's only 65 of the 257 democrats in the house. I would bet anything that most of those would cave into party pressure if it came to a vote.

"The letters came after Holder, during a news conference to announce the arrest of Mexican drug dealers, said the drug cartels were obtaining high-powered weapons like the AK-47 from U.S. gun stores and said the Obama administration supported reinstituting the ban on the sale of assault-style weapons."
BTW, this is crap! Do they think people are actually so stupid to think these mexican drug-cartels cant get weapons elsewhere? Why would they buy here, smuggle back to mexico, and then convert to full auto when they can buy elsewhere already full-auto, not to mention going through the background checks here. Sorry, I'm not buying it

I agree. The American people are starting to get fed up about all this money and are starting to tell Washington. The democrats that are up for re-election don't want a Second Amendment fight on their hands on top of everything else.
Still I will take any help from anybody that helps protect the Second Amendment. So they get a Thank you.

Interesting interview that aired on FOX yesterday between Glenn Beck and Wayne LaPierre (NRA VP) regarding gun control and Holder and drug cartels.

Well said, what part of "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" do the gun control advocates and some of our political leaders do not understand? Can't they comprehend that this is just one of the check and balances our founding fathers were wise enough to write into the constitution to prevent anarchy that they had just fought a war over from ever happening again.
