Went to the farm at about 10:15 this morning. Drove around the corner and there were about 6 hens with 2 longbeards with them. One of the long beards was strutting. This bird was so hot that within the 20 minutes I watched them he "did it" or "mated" with the ground about 3-4 times. Saw no poults and am hoping the six hens either are jennies or were just up feeding. I did see one hen get in the breeding position and when the longbeard would get close to her she would hop away. She may not be an exhibitionist and didn't let him cause I was watching[:)]!

yes this practice is very common see it every year...includiung this year multipule times heard one gobbling this morning with a quail whistling all at the same time so birds were pretty active before the storms

Never seen it in person, but I saw it on a HS Sturt video. It was a jake.
I have not seen one pleasure itself on the ground, but a mans got to do what a mans got to do. I did see a really nice bird this morning. He was in a field with a couple of other longbeards and about eight hens. I don't think you could have paid him enough to come out of a strut.
A bad day hunting id better than agood day at work.
