My buddy went out to do some scouting and was walking and heard music to his ears. He didnt have any calls on him so he took his i phone out and got on you tube and played some yelps and clucks and he said the bird came right to him about 10 yrds away. I hope it is still like this come the 18th. I couldnt sleep last night just thinking about opening day!!!!!!

It's nice to hear 'em gobbling, but that wasn't very smart of your buddy.

It's also not legal to call from March 1st other than locator calls. You may want to remind him!!!

yeah tell him that it's illegal to do that, even if it wasn't illegal I wouldn't want to educate those birds before season. Good to hear that birds are gobbling though.

Maybe on your farm but damn trying to stir the pot huh? My buddy was out there scouting and heard one and then he started with his I phone. I cant blame him and he was un aware of the rule anyways. So if you want to start the "and we want to know why birds are call shy" go somewhere else because i was just posting it to get the hype going. I appreciate the ones who said that it was great to hear them gobbling and made us(him) aware of the law, but someone doesnt have to jump to barney bad ass and say that.. Come on now! We are all counting down the days and cant wait. Be part of our family ( the true hunters out here) and support and educate not criticize. Wayne

i am not saying your a bad fella but according to the laws
1-its illegal to mimic a call of the wild turkey (until an open season) youth or regular season
2- you used a electronic device A NO NO
BUT i can understand how you got caught up in the excitment
US as well as turkeys have dealt witha long and harsh winter

My wife calls this time of the year, ( the waiting for season, the anxiety it builds, running out in the early morning just to hear a gobble, driving off the side of the road watching birds in the field, bad moods, hanging out in this forum, oh did I mention bad moods? ) turkey PMS. Happens every year just about this time. Got to go, dawn will be breaking soon. Glad to hear they were gobbling. Be kind to fellow hunters.:)

Watched two flocks within sight of my house yesterday. One flock had 27 birds with "" two strutting and gobblin"". The other flock had 34 birds with only one gobbler strutting.
This is the problem around my hunting areas. Too many hens and way too many large flocks of birds. Season is too late for working many of these surrounded TOMS. Youth season comes in when all of the state season should start. I know this causes much controversity in the hunting crowd, but I have been turkey hunting since it started in Kentucky. (FT. Knox was the first hunt for me) I live in the country surrounded by farms and turkeys. Get to watch them every day.

Its march they have been gobbling for a month now, I watch four strutting the other day in a snowstorm. I’m not trying to jump all over you at all, but your buddy broke the law in 2 ways. I just know of people that do this same thing every year to try out new calls on areas they don’t hunt and all this does is educate the turkeys. Oh and I wasn’t trying to stir the pot I shouldn’t have said that I’m sorry if I offended you, hope you and your friend’s season goes well!

although my first thoughts were that of "what a fool " i remember that this group is that of many different kinds of people . i hate to admit that that means that some hunt for different reasons than me. id like to have the whole woods to myself keep it between me and the birds if there is an unatural disturbance to the flock i want it to be from me . thats not usually the real world though. i am young31 but stick to the older school as that is who i learned to hunt from . still because i usually end up hunting farther and longer than i had planned i carrry my cell for an emergency this guy might go back in april and kill this gobbler who took a shine to the phone:o who knows i still think ill end up killing more in the long run with the slow quiet approach in every sense some birds are just meant to die on the day that one of these amateurs hit the woods with thier highest frequency call and a 8 dollar mouth call just a joke none of us can guaruntee anything with wild turkeys. success is a mixture of predetermined skill, training, experience, and timing. dont like the word luck timing sides more with the human than the bird:cool: good luck to everyone. im glad theres that many hunters out there its my favorite type of hunting love it

I concur. Nothing like having it all to yourself, being able to study how the turkeys operate without worrying about others disturbing you and the turkeys.

Apoligy accepted. He was very unaware of this until i told him. And Wkyhunter, Thanks for being a true hunter and not trying to stir the pot. I wish everyone the best of luck this season. And now my buddy knows the law. Thanks everyone.

It is every hunters responsibility to know the regs before you scout or hunt. It is also a true sportsmans responsibility to police our own ranks with no Im sorries involved. I didnt know that was illegal is no excuse, try that on a game warden, enough said.
