I have thought for a while about getting a box of thses new shells, Hevi's/Nitro's ect. The one thing that concerns me though is the pattern being TOO tight at around 20-25 yrd. Can anyone tell me how tight they really do shoot at such ranges. Softball size? I've been thinking on getting a box of Winchester extended range and I have a .665 and a .670 choke. Gun is a 870. Thanks, John.

At 20-25 I would say more around basketball size. (AKA take his head off)

I shoot a Berretta Extema using the nitro shells and choke suggested by the ammo manufacturer.....At 20 yards the pattern is about the size of a mush ball a bit smaller than a softball......

Depending on the situation and the behavior of the bird, I aim for the head and it will generally vaporize it.......Now if the bird comes in nervous and he is not holding still, I simply hold at the point where his feathers end on the base of the neck and pull the trigger..........

I havent notice the tight pattern effecting my ability to hit the target.....Aim small miss small...........I also use a red dot on my shotgun.....

there was another thread on here somewhere about taking coke cans and 16oz coke bottles to pattern a gun(about the size of a turkeys head )I think this would be a good way to really pattern your gun and see what you 've got.when I bought my choke (Indian Creek)the guys had a target on their table that was shot @ 40 yds and the pattern was about the size of a basketball so I would have to think that 25yds is gonna be about the size of a softball, never had much luck with the extended range shells anyway.

That is exactly what I do......Instead of using high dollar loads I simple use a box of high brass heavy field loads usually #6's....

What load is it MG.......There should be a part number on the box that identifies the load.....
