I spoke with someone at Land Between the Lakes this afternoon and the quota hunt drawing has been held. The permits will be mailed out this Friday (March 6th). Has anyone ever hunted Area 12?

Thanks for the info, but I hunt KY side. I think scouting will be VERY important this year because much will be different from the ice storm.

My concern is that they will not have the northern portion open, which means all the hunters will be bottled up inthe south... not good...

I will not be able to hunt the TN side if I get a KY permit. It says it on card. But I agree that the areas that are clear when we hunt will probably have more of a concentration of hunters.

The one side effect I am looking forward to is a limitation of those scouting. The insane idea that driving up to a field, stepping out and then crow calling, WILL NOT WORK IN LBL!

Please stop training the birds...

To me, HWY 68 is the divider for North and South. As it is right now, every road north of 68 is closed to all traffic. If it remains that way, all the areas south of 68 will be completely covered up. I am not sure what the plan is, but I hope that they are able to have all the roads, or at least a majority of them, open.

I have no idea how many of them they have opened back up but they are not all closed.

You are right, but according to the radio in Cadiz, only a small number are open as of yesterday. I misspoke about ALL the roads...

Even though some of the secondary roads, campgrounds, and ramps are closed will that mean no hunting? I won't mind a little more walking if the main roads are open. Besides, I know a few areas within short hikes of the Trace that normally hold a few birds.

Not sure what that will mean. I do know that every area north of 68 was closed to small game hunting after the storm until the last season ran out. I guess I am just wondering what will happen more than stating what WILL happen.

My group of 5 got the dreaded preference point postcard and not the winning envelope.

WKYHUNTER, I'm very surprised that you didn't get in this year as I have never missed 2 years in a row. Were you by yourself or did you put in as a group?

Good luck to all...

I put in with my dad, but we were putting in in TN.
There seems to be more pressure for permits on the TN side, there are also fewer permits.
I thought we didn't get drawn last year, but i found a tag from the 2nd Kentucky last year. Can't for the life of me remember why I put in for that one. We have hunted the TN side the last few years and if you kill on the KY side during the quota hunt, you can't hunt the first TN season.
Congrats to all got drawn.
I'll be over during the youth hunt with 2 of my kids.

OK guys.........Here is the situation: I drove through LBL this past weekend and the ice storm didn't totally ruin the area. From Hwy 68/80 to the south, there were some trees and limbs down, mostly pine and cedar. North of 68/80 there was more damage but from what I could see from the Trace, it wasn't terrible. Damage seemed to be in spots but like I said, it was mostley where the pine and cedars were. The hardest hit area was in the far north portion near the dams.
I got my permit for the 11th & 12th on the TN side.

Hey now, he turned me on to one really nice spot.....don't wear them out before I get to hunt there. Last year I was able to get a couple gobbling but things never worked out. I do hope you guys do well though.

This is the latest and greatest from wpsd.

KENTUCKY- Land Between the Lake officials say they continue to open recreation areas on a daily basis.

Areas that are currently open include: Golden Pond Visitor Center and Planetarium, The Homeplace, Piney Campground, the Elk & Bison Prairie, Canal Loop Trails, the Field Archery and Firearm Range, Colson Hollow Group Camp and Nature Station Trails.

The Nature Station and Hillman Ferry and Energy Lake Campgrounds are scheduled to open April 1st.
Most roads on the Kentucky portion of LBL remain closed.
