Not a common occurence. Could they have possibly been poult jakes giving it a shot? I would love to see it, but in 20 years of messing with turks, haven't been lucky enought to witness it yet:(

Ditto. Have seen a lot of ticked off hens. Just really wander if they possess a larynx similar to a gobbler that would enable them to gobble. 20 yrs of turkey hunting and never seen either. Could a hen strutt out her feathers to aid in drying? Good questions for Lovett Williams Jr.

I've seen a hen strut, even videoed it. She was displaying dominance over another hen, but she dropped her wings, tail fanned and strait up, feathers on end for several minutes.
I haven't seen a hen gobble but know another biologist that has.

I've never seen one gobble but had a hen come in to my decoys on opening day in 2007. She strutted and displayed around them for a while. Thought I was going to lose a decoy but she finally lost interest and wandered off. She was big time upset with those decoys.

Pretty neat. I've heard of them strutting as well but that would be something to see them gobble.
