This turkey died to a load of extended range #5 out of the 935/BSA Red Dot. Set up at edge of timber and called him out of hardwoods to the field. He saw pretty boy and with a few soft yelps and purrs he closed the deal. The shot was 25 yards and was killed on March 28, 2009.

23 lbs 3 Year Old 10.5" Beard 8" Beard 1" Spurs

I had planned on hunting public land at Dale Hollow for a few days but with a morning having to dress like late duck season boat ride I did not hear any birds. That terrian is not the best to run and gun on due to the slopes. So I loaded the boat and headed back to a farm in TN. Parked the truck at 1:15pm and had 5 long beards at 15 steps at 1:55pm. This bird was killed on March 30, 2009 with a benelli SBEII and xtended range #5. Birds gobbled and put the butt wacking on pretty boy...then BOOM!

Well Sunday morning I learned you are not suppose to forget your vest and decoys...make the long drive then realize when I show up 10 minutes before gobbling light the gear I need is an hour away...So what do you do...make a good scouting trip and that was worth it...so Tuesday morning I now have all my gear and this is the results. Benelli SBE II xtended range #5 40 yards. This bird another long beard and about 20 jakes came in to pretty boy...even though the double bull did its job that is a lot of eyes and I was ready to head back home to Muhlenberg County....BOOM!

Here's mine and my buddy's Osceolas last weekend (3-27-09) in St. Cloud, FL. Both were about 18 lbs., 1.25" spurs, and 10" beards. The bottom pic is one of the many gators we saw on the property.

April 5, 2009: Left the house at 3am...song birds were already talking knew it was going to be a good day...Some of us turkeys hunters wear our bodies and minds down this time of year that is for sure. Well after setting up on a tom this morning and getting him to come in to 30 yards and not getting a shot it was time to play the patience game of turkey hunting. Bird 4 for TN turkey season 23lbs, 9"beard, 1"spurs. He was lonely at 9:30 and came in like a text book hunt. Was great getting to share this experience with a person I love as much if not more than the sport itself. Until next spring in TN...

It was a great hunt this morning with birds roosted and gobbling hard but the time clock and work don't go together...so what does one do after work? Go back and we had two different hunts with some results...Ive never seen a bird strut any harder than Jason's you could hear his wings drag the ground 60yds away each time he started his new dance called the SPRING STRUT...Glad to spend some time with a great friend...What a great show we had today...Both of our birds were packing over inch spurs (3yr old's)...It is amazing how different they act after they are two sometimes...

My son and I doubled up on the Indiana opening morning

We were hunting out of side by side popups in our little 40 acre patch in Warrick county. The reasoning for the side by sides was to have more room for My son to maneuver as he was hunting with his PSE X Force. He had already killed a gobbler this year in Illinois, so he had switched over to a bigger challenge to take any more birds this year with a bow.

I had 'Ol Betsy - the Remington 870.

THE PLAN -IF two birds came in to our setup My son would pick the one on the right and I should take the one on the left. Since shooting a bird with a bow does not usually flush all the birds at once My son would shoot first and I would cue off of him.

IF a single gobbler came in I would take it as My son had already killed one in Illinois this year.

We walked in about a half mile to our place by taking a rock road and then cutting around a stand of pines that sometimes held birds. My son set out his "stuffer jake" and a rubber hen (Wing Supply $5 sale decoy) and got in the blinds at 5 CST.

We heard NOTHING until about 9am and one bird gobbled in behind us to My son's call and then promptly shut up.

I had just finished the last of my coffee and was glancing up and down the field. I then looked across the field and here comes two longbeards closing the distance. They have come out of a wooded area and were at 40 yards when I saw them.

I get 'Ol Betsy up and ready picking out and aiming at the left bird's head. My son had said that he would take the right side bird when they came in and stay on it even if they swapped places after coming in.

I'm following the left bird all around as they circle the "stuffer" pecking at it. I'm waiting... and waiting... and waiting for My son to shoot. "Ol Betsy is starting to get heavy when finally after a couple minutes - TWACK... My son shoots and hits the right side bird. The left bird jumps and moves around a little and I put the diamond of the Simmons Pro-Diamond on his his head and BOOM. He drops immediately.

My son's bird ran about 25 to 30 yards and was down for the count.

When we got out of the blinds I asked him "what took you so long to shoot"? He explained that he was caught by surprise by the birds as he was texting his wife at the time. When he looked up and saw the birds pecking the decoy he picked up his bow to shoot. He had trouble drawing it in the blind as he did not want to stick his arrow out the front window and take a chance of spooking birds. His blind was open in the front.

When he did get drawn he had to wait until one bird moved so that would not skewer both birds.

It all ended well with two nice gobblers down.

It is nice to double up with My son...

Well this morning (5-1-09) me and my brother went out to shelbyville and before i even setup my blind, i seen a deer about 200yrds off. of course it spooks and runs off. well i get in the blind and within 10 minutes, i had a hen at about 75 yards. she stuck around for about 3 hours of the morning. then at about 8am i see a few turkeys about 150yrds off and i see 2 strutters and about 9 hens. after about 10 minutes something spooked them off and they ran the opposite way of me. then about 30 minutes later i see 2 hens come out into my field at about 100 yards. well these 2 hens turned into 4 hens and they all started walking straight for my blind. well about the time the get about 20 yards away my brother calls me (he can see me and all the action) and says that he thinks there is a jake in the group of birds. well i said no i just looked and there were only 4 hens and he said "there are a lot more than 4 turkeys right next to you." (i had my back window on my blind closed so i couldnt see all the other turkeys coming up behind me.) so i inch down onto the ground and turn around and sure enough there are about 10-12 birds back behind me. the first jake that i spotted was about 30 yards and i put my sights on him and dropped him like a rock!!!!! He had a 5" beard and 3/8" spurs!!!http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs032.snc1/3226_98417382672_559592672_2469914_2531170_n.jpg (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2469915&id=559592672)

I've been working on getting both my boys a bird most of the year, but Ol'dad snuck out Wed. and nailed one :D First day I've heard any gobbling after fly down in awhile. This bird wasn't even the one I was working, he came in silent while the bird I was calling to stayed down in the holler and gobbled. I pulled the trigger at 12:15. He's 20lb. with 1 1/8in spurs and 10 in. beard, and I got him in Cane Creek WMA in Laurel Co.http://www.kentuckyhunting.net/forums/picture.php?albumid=26&pictureid=1452http://www.kentuckyhunting.net/forums/picture.php?albumid=26&pictureid=1453
