I just bought a 26' barrell magnum. I was wondering if anyone had patterned a load for this gun. I am using a Rem. super full turkey choke. Thanks.

What constriction is you factory chokes, and is it lead only? All my Rems like winnchester ammo. Nitros are awsome, but a little pricey for me right now...

I've had good luck using Winchester HV 3" #4 or 5 with the combination you have. But, you need to try your gun you may well find others that pattern better.
If you have the time check out the NWTF web site, the guns section, in the fourms, is a good resource on pattering and various loads. Another good one is oldgobbler.com in thir fourms section.

I have a 21" barrel but mine shoots win supreme hv 6s best with that choke. That is the 1 3/4 oz load.

This is the best advice you will ever receive concerning a load for your gun. The only thing I'd advise differently is to get an Indian Creek choke instead of the Rhino and I've owned/used both.

I've had really good luck with #4 hevi-shot with a patternmaster.

I have the same gun and choke. I use Hevi-shot #5 or Federal #5 3 1/2 inch shells.

Ive got the same gun and choke, I've used Federal #6s for a long time. Have never wounded one, missed a few though.....I dont take any shots over the 35-40 yd range though.

Ditto here. Can't go wrong with Indian Creek and Nitros.

Wouldn't it be great if the shell companys, sold boxes of mixed shots, that way a person could try different shot size without buying a whole box.:D

I had my barrel sleeved by Bansner several years ago. Dumbest thing I ever did gun wise!! The ONLY shell that patterns in that gun is the long discontinued Activ 2 1/4 oz load. Once it's sleeved it's permanent. Anybody that wants to trade a rem choke 870 barrel for one sleeved by a so called expert give me a shout!

Yeah I use to shoot those Activ shells.....Nickel plated shot I recall....Good stuff....Hated to see em go under!

All I can say every gun is different. youll just have to get a bunch of different loads and try all that you can. i have a HS strut choke in my 870 supermag and it likes 3.5 in # 5 winchester supremes. :)

I have never hunted turkey with anything other than my 870 express. I have killed several with winchester #4 shot and just a full choke at 30-40 yards. My last bird was killed with Remington #5 shot 3" and a Undertaker choke at 42 yards. That choke and shell combo has made the best pattern for me so far.

This is spot-on. I had to shoot #4-5-6 shot in 3" with a full choke and my undertaker choke to find the best pattern. My shoulder was sore that day:o. But it paid off with a nice spring tom last year:)

One thing about the turkey guns, shooting 3" or 31/2" shells,if you have too shoot alot to pattern your gun,it is going to do a number on your shoulder. Since I've been using a gun sled, has made a world of difference. I would highly reccomend using one.:)

Or you can skip all of this patterning and abuse all together by shooting an Indian Creek/Nitro combo and having your gun pattern the best it possibly can from the get go.

What fun is a gun if you can't take some time to shoot it and really get a feel for it? Patterning a shotgun is fun, espically if you are trying to out-pattern your friends.:D

Not everyone wants to spend the $100 for one box of shells and a choke. Apparently a lot of people do though... I'm sorry, but I'll stop turkey hunting when I have to spend $6 per shot to kill one... and I haven't stopped yet.

My point exactly......Try all you like and you will never out pattern a gun set up with the Nitro combination..........And while you are spending 40 here and 60 there on tubes and 12 here and 20 there on shells.....Im sitting back scratching my head saying...."Will that boy ever learn?"

Hmmmmm.......How many calls, decoys, blinds, cushions. tags, vests, gallons of gas, wear and tear on your vehicle etc have you spent money on to turkey hunt....? Not to mention your gun tubes and shells you have played with to get the setup you like now?

My shells cost me less than $20/year to fill my tags.....Small price to pay when you look at the big picture.....

Besides.......I like to blow the head plum off the buzzards every chance I get!

Well, I don't know anything about the "Nitro combo", but I do know that I have a $20 choke and a $10 box of shells, and I have killed plenty of birds with it. It's been working great for me with out spending over $100.

Whoah, slow down there. We're not talking about anything but shells and chokes, so that other stuff doesn't apply, even though I'd wager I've spent less on that too.

I bought exactly one choke ($40) and two boxes of shells ($12 x 2 = $24) this year and got a combo that will far exceed what I need in a pattern, so I'm done. So that's $64, a hair over what your shells cost (without a choke) and I'm good for about 7 years (14 shells left at 2 birds per year.) What's so wrong with that?

I'm basically just arguing to show you the flip side of the coin. Enough people preach the Nitro religion around here that there's probably something to it - I believe you.... But I'd be embarassed to tell my Papaw that I spent $60 on ten shots!!! :D

Well, people ask what choke/load combo works best for their gun and I tell them. Their is no better patterning load than Nitro, that's a fact. Some scoff at paying that much for box of shells and that's there right.

Exactly...... I hear folks recommend tubes and shells all the time.....I know from past experience that what works in factory loads in one combo ( gun and tube) does not correlate to another........ Ive played that game and wasted alot of money in the process......
