View Full Version : Spur necklace?
I seen a guy wearing one and couldnt get his attention to ask him how it was made does anybody know how they are made?
I know a guy that made a hat band that looked pretty good. Use a fine tooth saw and cut through the leg about 1/4" above and below the spur. Use a pipe cleaner and clean out the marrow. Use a X-acto knife or razor knife, split the skin and peel it off.
Thanks the necklace really caught my eye.

This is the one I'm starting. I cut the leg bone right next to the spur, remove the skin like above reply, then boil for 15-20 seconds. I then polish the bone and string em on a leather thong with beads seperating the spurs.

Here is one I have made.
I let the legs dry for a month or two and then get out the dremel tool and start to cut above and below the spur. Then take a knife and peel away the skin. Q-Tips work just fine to get any left over bone marrow. If the cap comes off, just super glue it on. Happens sometimes.

Mainly just to cause what meat and such thats still on the bone to come off easier. I haven't had any caps come off yet, but friends tell me it happens. Also had someone tell me it discolors the cap. Haven't noticed that either. I only submerge it for 15-30 seconds and it's mostly cleaned when it goes in the water. I think if you get most of the meat off and let it dry good you could skip the boiling, but I'm too impatient!

CEO, did you put any type of finish on the bone when you were done? That looks great. I have a box of feet in the barn, I may try that.

Yes. I put clear lacquer (think that is how you spell it) on it once I am finished. It gives them a glossy look.

If you use borax the meat will get hard and then you can polish the bone with a dremel tool......Once you have the spur clean and polished you can apply a couple of light coats of lacquer from a spray bomb to keep the caps from peeling.....The result will be a nice shiny and well preserved spur that can be used for decoration.......

Need to cure and moth proof them in Borax. Keeps the mothes out of your beard.
