I have been checking into a new cell phone. I have checked with ATT, my current provider, and will likely stay with their service. My question is which phone to get? I currently have a razr, and want to upgrade. I text some, and connect to the net at times. I already pay for the service, but want/need a better phone. Which phone do you guys recommend? I look at the phones, and most of it is greek to me.
What I do know is this. My phone drops calls like crazy. People come to my house and can talk with no issues on their phones, so I will assume it is my phone. The bride has a razr as well, and can use it anywhere in the house. When my phone rings, its a mad dash to the phone, then out the front door before the call drops. I have a Nokia work phone that will work just about anywhere there is oxegen, but it is a plain flip phone.

I have an Iphone and I wouldnt trade it for anything else made.....
Great reception and I can retrieve emails, send emails, surf the the net and even buy things online when I need to.....
I have applications like The Weather Channel that gives me up to the minute weather forecasts and alerts, I can hit a button and find out who around me has the cheapest gas prices regardless of where I am, , maps, a neat program called Google earth that is a satelite picture of where I am and the surrounding area, I even have a level.......
Its a great tool for me!

As Bowhunter08 stated I have the Samsung Blackjack and I love it. I got it for when I go into my Massage Therapy field so that i can keep up with appointments and contacts. i have done email, text, videos and all that on it as well... I dont really care for the iphone myself. I have people that i work with that have it and dont like it after they got it because of the plan that they have to have with it. If ya really wanna try out a diff phone i could let you try out my blackjack for a weekend and let u see how you like it?? Lemme Know!!

I used to not be able to get reception at my house, but I recently got a Blackberry, and can. It will help your signal strength. Also, Verizon seems to have better range than AT&T does in most areas.

I have have a curve and love it, but may upgrade to the iphone. It's in a class by itself, imo. My only hangup is the touch screen. I'm a button guy. You're gonna pay about $40 more a month in internet service fees though.

I just replaced my Razr with a LG Vu. So far I like it. Last year I upgraded from the same Razr to a Blackberry....that thing was a pos. The antenna was so bad I could barely make a call from anywhere so I went back to the Razr. I've only had the Vu for a day so I'll keep you posted.

Kieth,Lee up the street has tried a bunch of phones in this area.He had the same problems ,dropped calls, bad signal. He got a motorola I-580 military grade phone with Sprints Nextel version service. His problems were solved. It is a rubber armored phone with clear sound and service. He called ATT and they told him this area had a dead zone because of the location of the tower. Some phones worked good ,others not .No problems with the I-580.

That part is coming later when I ask how durable the phones are.....I have a few requirements. It should be capable of opening a beer, driving a nail, skinning a deer, paddling a boat, getting a truck out of the mud, splitting firewood, text, surf the net, and be used for verbal communications. It also has to keep accurate time.....;)

If durability is an issue, I'd go with the Curve. Too much screen on the iphone. I got mine through Best Buy and pay $7 a month for insurance. It's a 450.00 phone and if something happened to it, I'd be paying for the service and wouldn't be able to replace it. I think the insurance is pretty solid from what I understand. You can lose your phone and get another.

Keith, see if they'll give you a loaner Curve to try for a couple days. They did for a friend of mine to see if he could get service at his house.

keith...i highly recommend this phone...i had it for 3 years and i almost never dropped a call...i am also very rough on phones and i didnt switch phones until just recently and thats only because i got a new one for christmas...when i had this phone...i dropped it countless time, threw it down if i was mad, its went through a rain while hunting...the thing has even feel out of a stand before...very very very good phone...the only thing that i ever had a problem with was for about 3 weeks last year the vibrate stopped working but then it started working again...i texted all the time on it but i never used the internet...if you ask a phone service about this phone you might ask about that but seriously...i loved this phone...

if you're cheap like me a pay as you go phone will work with your att g3 sim card. 29 bucks at radio shack but tell them to keep the card and they take ten smooth ones off the top for ya.
i like technology but don't like paying for it. 19 bucks for a nokia phone that will do most of what other phones do (minus camera, which i have a nice cam already) you can't beat, especially without renewing contract.
good luck.

AT&T also now has what they call a Rugby.. it's one of those phone that they say pass military standards. It's supposed to hold up in all kinds of weather and falls... things like that.. you can go to at&t's website and search for the rugby and they have it in yellow, red & black... this phone might be of some interest to you as well... hopefully the link below will work for you

I vote for the iphone. I've had mine a year and a half and it's been flawless. I beat the living crap out of it at work everyday and it keeps on ticking. If you've never messed with an iphone, you owe it to yourself to let someone that has one show you what you can do with them. Don't rely on advertising. I'm sure the other phones are cool too, but I'd bet anything the iphone is every bit as durable, if not more so then the other phones.
If you're on the fence, you're more than welcome to check out my phone for a couple of hours.

For durability, I'll take a brick style phone over a flip phone any day.
My Razr is the best phone I have had so far. It has been dropped numerous times (on concrete) and wet on an occasion or two and still works. I have thought about getting a new phone as well but cannot find a phone that would fit into my pocket like the Razr does.

Yep.. I have done this too, when the kids would break or lose their phones before upgrade time. I really can't speak about phones other than my work phone is a Blackjack 2 and personal phone is an old junker. Daughter traded with me to get my Blackberry 8830. Blackjack is cool- great web service and Slingbox works awesome. The Blackberry 8830 was good because it would connect to WIFI hot spots. Free internet's always cool! I'd stick with AT&T if I were you. Before the daughter snagged my Blackberry I would change the sim to an old phone when I would go to camp or hunt.

I never thought I'd want a fancy phone. I can't tell you how many times I've said to someone, "I just want a phone that makes and receives calls." Then I decided that it might be nice to have email on the phone for work.....and got an iPhone.
Wow. MUCH better then any other phone I've ever had...or thought could be made... in every way. I use the heck out of this thing and can never go back. I have a good friend with the new Google phone (from Tmobile) and the iPhone is MUCH better.
I picked up this case for mine
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/accessory-details/?q_categoryid=cat980639&q_sku=sku2650225&q_manufacturer=&q_model=
If the link doesn't work, it's the "Canvas ECO Case - iPhone 3G (http://www.kentuckyhunting.net/cell-phone-service/accessory-details/?q_categoryid=cat980639&q_sku=sku2650225&q_manufacturer=&q_model=) " I don't try to judge if it looks good or not, I don't know about these things, but it fits in my pocket well and seems to protect the phone from my abusive ways.

I too have seen your phone, you are pretty rough on em. Mine is the motorola V365 designed for outdoor use. pretty rugged, rubber armor to cushion drops and falls and pretty water resistant. this is my second one (first one got crushed by our dumptruck) and I am happy with it.

When I saw this I had to laugh.. it was pretty much identical to the first cell phone my dad got. If I was headed out for a lengthy hunting trip out of state...he always made me take this monstrosity along.
One of the first times I ever used it was turkey hunting in southern Iowa..near Centerville on public ground in the middle of nowhere. This phone was clear as a bell & did'nt have a clue where a cell tower was. Those things had the reach.
Nowdays with a cheap Nokia 6085 flip phone... small & tough but you dang near got to be in sight of a tower. In my opinion all the latest cell phone advancements are nice when they work. My daughter has had a Blackberry that I'm not real impressed with. She has definitely taken care of it but its had numberous problems. Fact being its not working now and shes packing her moms cheap flip phone with her Sims card in it. I think she is about ready to downgrade just for dependabillity.

Finally made the next big step. I bought the Iphone. I looked at several different models, but kept going back to the options the Iphone offered. The street level google maps is pretty cool, as well as the weather at the fingertips. It could be a while before I get this thing figured out.
The guy at ATT said there is software available to fix the text messaging forwarding problem. That was the only hangup I found that anyone had with the phone.

There are alot of good applications that you can get with your phone that make it an essential tool. Being able to access your email is great........
cheap gas works well for me when im on the road and want to locate the cheapest gas around......
moonphase is a great app that I use and is a freebie...
Google Mobile App is an awesome program that allows you to do a google search with voice......
There are alot of good games you can download for those slow times in the stand as well.....
Im sure you will enjoy it.....Let me know if you find an app that allows you to forward text messages....
Here's the apps I have that I use the most...
Google Earth (you'll REALLY appreciate that with your job), but your mental maps are probably better than the satellite photos.:D
Facebook
SportsTap
USA Today
The Weather Channel
Shazam
Ap Mobile News
Of course you can make an icon for any web page you want. I have one for the local radar.

Keith I think the only thing you can not do is send or recieve pics????? Not for sure..
You can send and receive pics, you just can't do it by a text message. You go through email instead. That would have been a bad thing a few years ago, but now the phones can process an email as fast as a text.

The iPhone is the greatest phone ever invented. Not only is the most functional and useful but by far the most durable. I've dropped it numerous times, my friend dropped hers in the toilet, and countless other friends have all did things to their phone and it lived to make another call.
I've had 3 razr's. Those are complete junk.

I can't speak for the Rarz because I've never owned one. I do agree with you on the other part though. As with any product, you know something is the best if it sets the bar for everything else afterwords. Pretty much every single smartphone to be introduced since the iPhone is a direct copy in form and function.
I will say that it's not for everyone though. For instance, my mother would have no use for one as she has a hard time figuring out how to make a phone call. Unless you embrace technology on a few different levels, I'd skip out on the iPhone. The iPhone does make it very easy to learn and operate though. Mac based OS are far easier to use IMO.
