wisconsin grouse hunting

well boys I just returned from 6 exciting days of grouse hunting in north east wisconsin. the hunting wasn't to bad. the slowest day we had, we only jumped 13 birds, then 2 exceptional days with a 25 flush day & 32 flush day + a dozen or so woodcock. the down side of things was the cooperation we got from ol mr. ruff. they were set out to give the dogs a good foot race. 90% of the birds wouldn't hold, most of the time running 20 to 30 yards then flushing. mix that with the fact the leaves hadn't started to fall didn't add up to a lot of shot opportunities. we only bagged 17 grouse & 24 woodcock for the 6 days, but oh well it sure beat the heck out of work.

birdman I gave grouseguy a call while I was up there & left a message about how we were doing. I hope he's getting those pup's in the birds. I just talked to a buddy thats up there this morning. He's over around clam lake. yesterday they only jumped 5 grouse but the day before around 20. he said the birds were still running a lot on the dogs. I went down to clay on sunday & only jumped 2. they flushed before I could make it to the dog. I guess I'm just gonna wait till after gun season when all these leaves are off the trees. How far a drive are you from salyersville ? I got a place there we can hunt. havn't hunted there in a few years but had birds then & that's when they weren't doing so good. give me a call sometime & we'll talk grouse...859-333-1122
