Myself I think that Carter Caves is a overlooked park and destination. Stay in one of the cabins. In the spring and summer they have it all. Golf, put put golf, Pool, Lake, Hiking horse back riding and of course the caves. I spent allot of my youth there. The cabins are very nice have a good view. Fireplace 2 bedrooms 2 baths. Sleeps 10, Full kitchen and the lodge has a great buffet. You could stop at the aquarium on the way. I know they have a big event the last week of Jan. I use to guide trips for them. There is also a good trac of public hunting that backs up to it.

Most Kentucky state parks/lodges offer off-season rates until March 31st....Mammoth Cave would be great...same temp. inside year round.

I recommend taking a trip up to French Lick, IN. My wife and I stayed at French Lick Springs and visited West Baden (just down the road) and really enjoyed our stay. It was relatively cheap and West Baden boasts some pretty amazing architecture. You don't have to be a gambler to enjoy it (we're not.)

Carter caves is the best state park there is, they are still running tours even through the winter months. It would be a fun trip for them, they have awesome cabins, great food, and the caves are a 56degree activity to get in out of the cold.
If your in southern indiana, you are about 2hours 45 minutes from carter caves.. its well worth the trip.
