I was over my brothers house for Christmas dinner last night and he showed me this revolver. The gun is used and looks to be in about 85 to 90 % original condition with a 4 inch barrel. He said he would sell it to me for $700 firm. What do you think I should do?

Since I saw one on Gunbroker just now for $450 (reserve not met, tho)...I'd not buy it from him.
Always search Auction Arms and Gunbroker for the going rates before buying something, would be my advice.

I seem to recall those guns selling new for less than 300 dollars, not too many years ago.
It's not a collectible, just a solid self defense revolver. Keep looking.

You're showing your age... If you can find King Cobra revolvers in any condition for under $300.00 I'll buy all you've got.
A 4" isn't the most rare of the King Cobras, but for a gun in good shape $700 is a fair price. Not a great deal, but it's fair. They aren't making any more of them, but there are always a lot for sale.
Most of the 4" that have actually sold on GB are going for right arround $625-$800. The 2" guns are bringing over 1000.

Stainless Colt King Cobras Did sell for around $350 new in the box but it was over 15 years ago. The way they are selling now I think $475-500 would be a fair price. The 700 price is gettting real close to the low end blue Python range.
Just my two cents.

gee thanks brasskeeper for putting me on the spot.hehe a standard stainless King Cobra should fetch in the 600 range on today's used market. BUT, if its a "bright" one, that does help it out some. Just my .02, but if you plan on keeping it, his price isn't too bad. And another thing to keep in mind, its got C-O-L-T on it, so it won't take long to start gathering "interest" on the investment.

well fellas i bought the gun for $700. Before I did I went on Gunbrokers and analyzed the king cobras. There were 10 to 12 stainless guns selling for between $600 and $800. Though, I did notice there was only one in Bright stainless for sale. It was a mint condition never been fired 2 inch barrel with a bid 0f $1235.00. It said that it could be bought now for $1750.00. I then decided to go ahead and buy my brothers Bright stainless with 4 inch barrel. Though, I was wrong on the condition of the gun. The condition is more like 95 to 98 % and the barrel was smooth like new with no noticable marks when shown with a light. I did not by this gun to put up like a baseball card. I think guns are made to be shot. I shot the gun 6 times at 18 yards or 54 feet and put all 6 in a 5 inch diameter. I then backed up 2 more yards to 20 yards or 60 feet and fired 6 more times. The accuracy was within a 10 inch diameter. These shots were fired standing up with fist on hold in single action mold. I have to say this gun is one of the most accurate I have ever shot and ranks up there with my gold cup trophy.

You did good. Get on a bench sometime with it and it'll outshoot your goldcup by a mile.
