Another stupid accident that could have very easily been avoided. Don't put your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to shoot whatever is infront of your barrel. Turkey, you mean you didn't know glocks don't have safety:D

If only they would have obeyed the first three rules of gun safety.
1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
2. Alway's keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
3. Keep your finger off of the trigger until on target and ready to shoot.
4. Alway's be sure of your target and what is behind it.
If they would have followed any one of the first three rules, this would have never happened. And for the record, Glocks do have safety's. They are on the trigger. Which is why rule number 3 is the most important rule when handling Glocks. Can we just ban stupid people? Think of how much safer this world would be if we could ban ignorance.

Rule 5 -- Don't toss a loaded Glock to you brother's girlfriend who doesn't know anything about guns and know the OTHER rules of gun safety.

anyone that knows anything about pistols knows there is no such thing as a "glock 40." i assume the writer of this article is clueless.
the fact that it doesn't have a regular safety device is just a lame scape goat.
this is the type of article that instills that gut reaction in regular everyday media observers. that gut reaction would make people who do not think for themselves think, "man, why would a pistol not have a safety, that should be a law!"

I'm glad the kid just got hurt and hopeful he understands how his utter dumbassness bout got him killed.

three is correct.
trigger,
firing pin block,
loaded chamber indicator.
propaganda comes as intentional and ignorant unfortunately.

"the weapon accidentally discharged" In this case that means she pulled the trigger. Not knowing that it was loaded and would go off.
"They were apparently looking at a gun".........insert: playing with
"Daniel picked up the gun and asked the Godfrey brothers if they thought she needed a gun." ...........No!

these are similar to a couple of people i seen at the ccdw class i took. woman at the gun range didn't even know how to reload her high point pistol. then she walked away from the firing line to give it to her boyfriend/husband, probably just one her babies daddy.
when he was on the firing line in the ready position (what we were supposed to be in) he was holding his gun sideways as if he was looking at it while the barrel was pointing to the person to the left of him.
they need to make that ccdw class a little harder imo.

The "third" safety is actually a "dropped gun safety"---Mike

Like any safety, all it takes is one split second of stupidity or not paying attention for accident's to occur. Great performing guns. The trigger safety is not a design I'd recommend to someone who is not entirely on the ball, though. The Cincinnati PD recently switched from the Glocks forcewide to the M&P Pistol Series after 2 very publicized events where guys in the force had guns discharge accidentally. Both were sitting at desks. Investigation revealed the cause to be holstering without a high trigger guard and got caught on something. Although it was my understanding the M&P did not have a manual safety. Never played with one. If so, not sure where the safety improvement is.

The whole point is not for us to argue or discuss the relitive merits/flaws in Glocks,or wether we like them or not-but to create massive email/letters/feedback to the editiors of this newspaper about the ignorant, unimformed anti-gun slant and slander statements against the gun maker themself. I fired an email right off to them and we all should do something like that to stop this type of slanted "reporting" in future. Statements such as "trigger ring", glock40, and having NO safetys SHOULDN'T never even have made it past editor's desk-the fact that they did reflects and reveals the paper's attitude against firearms.

if i am going to be hard on the writer for misguided terminology i guess i can't whine when someone else calls me out for it.;)
by firing pin block i meant the safety of the pistol by meaning that the pistol will not fire without the trigger being activated even if dropped.
i would say that it has four safeties counting the loaded chamber indicator as well.
good call.

I once read about the good ol' S&W K frame, as reliable and dependable a gun as you'll find, being "unsafe" because it didn't have a safety lever anywhere on it.
Could anyone with an ounce of brain matter be surprised that if they stick their finger inside the trigger guard and pull, the thing goes boom?

Glocks are a different animal than most are used to. They are great when handled accordingly.

I was kind of wondering the same thing, especially when they said the gun went off accidentally but yet she put her finger on the trigger.
