Tried it once, everytime a limb slapped my leg I thought I was rattle snake bit. And that was pre blue tag days. Gunner usually the leafs are to thick and the wheather is to hot. Everything in the 7th district opens on state wide regs. Most of the WMA's are not hunted much at least in our area. Most of these areas have grown out of cover, they hold a few birds, some of the boys in our club will hit a few areas once or twice a year, but usually don't take any bird.

The areas that were cut two years ago and last year will help down the road, and we're looking for a lot more cuttings in further. John Gassett and his staff are attending to correct a problem that should have been taken care of from the beginning. It will take a little time and effort but with their help, our bird population shown be back in tack with in five or six years.

I went last year to Clay around October 20 or so. I got into more birds than I though but none held and too much foliage. Nonetheless, I'll probably be out tomorrow morning. Last year I saw/heard two or three other groups of hunters in the area I hunted. I think woodcock was in by then, which may have affected the numbers of hunters.

Have a good one, and watch for those blue tags[8D].

Went yesterday to Clay and had two flushes and one reflush. I did manage to knock the reflush down, but we didn't find the other -- or anymore for that matter. Did get four dove, flushed two coveys of quail and called in some crow and knocked one of them down.

Talked to some guys there that said they had seven flushes, but didn't get one. There were a lot more people there than in the past.

I'm thinking about going tomorrow to Clay WMA <u><b>without</b></u> any dogs, just wondering what kinds of cover and areas of the wma should I be looking for to hunt in? I'm kinda new to this sport any tips will be helpful. I dont work on tuesdays so tromping around a WMA beats sitting around the house all day watching TV.

Thanks
Greg

Went to Clay yesterday. Got three flushes from two birds. Two wild flushes. I had a perfect shot from the flush from point but my safety was screwed up and stuck until the bird got about thirty yards away and behind a tree and brush. The first bird flushed wild twice, the second time I thought it had gone down a steep embankment toward the river so I let it go. The bird I belatedly shot at flew staight away and then curved to the right up onto a small ridge close to where the first bird had gone. Well, about a minute later I hear a shot and a couple of minutes later, a couple more shots, both from where the birds went. I had a little chuckle and headed to the house. Maybe it was one of you guys I helped out. Anyone?
