Should I trade my Glock 23 40 S&W for a Glock 19 9mm?
Not just a yes or no I'm also looking for why or why not.

Isn't the 23 just a little heavier to handle the .40 versus the 19 handles the 9mm?
This sounds like a choice on whether you want to shoot 9MM or .40. Or is that what you want us to answer?

No!
Cause a 9mm can't carry the jock strap for a .40.

First these words are very true:cool:. I guess if you want a fun gun to plink with like a .22,the 19 would be great. Cheap ammo
Don't worry about recoil and recovery is in .000's for most people between multiple shots.

Well, In my humble opinion, I would keep the 23 in 40S&W. I give in to the facts that 9mm ammo is cheaper, the 19 has a slightly higher capacity, and with modern ballistics, a hot/good 9mm load doesn't lose much to the 40S&W.
But, the 9mm does lose a little in energy across the board, the 9mm isn't as comparably cheaper as it use to be, and there is no doubt good reason nearly all LE Deptments switched to the .40S&W.
Keep the 23 in 40S&W, buy a glock 357SIG barrel (an even better cartridge, which drops in and uses the same magazines), and buy an after market 9mm drop in conversion barrel and a couple of 9mm magazines for the glock 19 (they will fit in your 23). Now you have three guns in one, or just get the 9mm barrel and mags if your just interested in a 9mm. Probably about $200 for the 9mm barrel and a couple mags, and you've got both for less than half the price a new 19 would cost.
Target/Plink shoot with the cheaper 9mm conversion, carry the 40S&W.

WSM Man this would require a 9mm slide, the case heads are different.

No it would not. Barrel and mags friend.Maybe, just maybe an extractor.

turkeytalker is correct, the Glock 23 will shoot 9mm with just a barrel and mag swap, using the original slide and extractor.
Here is something I copied over frm EFK Barrels, Storm Lake Barrels also makes a conversion barrel. As you can see it specifies no gunsmithing or changes to your firearm what-so-ever other than barrel and mags.
EFK Firedragon™
Standard Match Grade Barrel
Because of the care exercised in manufacturing and Fire Dragon's refusal to compromise on any step of the process.
They use the finest material available (type 416 stainless steel).
Machining processes are accomplished on CNC equipment for close tolerance production.
Heat treating is done in a vacuum furnace for clean, consistent hardness of 43-45 Rc.
Barrels are bored and rifled using an electronic machining process.
This process produces greater accuracy (+/-50 millionths of an inch) and a superior finish (16 RMS or better). It also creates less stress than button, broach cutting, resulting in a more accurate barrel with greater durability.
Drop In Fit: Direct replacement for your factory barrel. No modifications to the weapon are required.
Fits: Glock 23 and 32 Model Pistols in .40 S&W and .357 SIG. These conversion barrels allow you to shoot 9mm ammo in your .40 S&W or .357 SIG Pistol. You will need to purchase 9mm magazines.

I would trade it for a Glock 17 and put a 3 1/2 pound trigger with adjustable sights on it. That's what I did clips hold 17 rounds.

Just as mike said-WHY IN THE WORLD would you want to take a step backward?? Since I'm assuming you want to use this pistol for defense, and just are thinking about moving DOWN due to ammo costs,it wouldn't make sense to deliberately handicap yourself when needed most. If you REALLY want to be able to practice sight alignment/trigger control/shooting on the cheap-get a .22 conversion kit.

I guess I'm in the minority. I've shot a few .40 S&W's and never cared for them. I wasn't able to shoot it accurately. I guess it could have been me. I love BOTH of my G19's. If you can shoot the 9 better, it will go a lot further than missing with a .40 I personally don't want to get shot by either. My 19's are gully loaded with Speer Gold Dot 147 grain +P. IThe Glock's shoot them well and I promise you won't be leaving the confines of my house if I find you lurking about at night :D
For me, I lean one way or the other. .45 ACP or 9mm

Another vote for the Glock 19 - the 19 just feels good in the hand and naturally points better than any other Glock, for my two cents. I think Glock's design was pretty much perfected with the G17, G19, and G21, and all the other Glocks are just icing on the cake.

I know my next Conceal Carry handgun will most definitely be a Glock 23. It just feels good in my hand and I like the .40 caliber round.

A fellow at work today told me one of Obama's ignorant gun grabbing plans may include stopping the sales of any ammo over 9MM, so if thats the case, the swap for the 19 might end up being a good move.

I wouldn't trade my 23 for two 19s...........or well maybe I would but I'd sell one of em' to get a 23 back:cool:. The good ol' .40 is hard to beat, low recoil with good punch.

Most of the guys that I talked to, that bash the 9mm, carry a 380 ccw. So it kinda kills their argument. If you carry a mouse gun like a Keltec 380, ruger LCP or somthing similliar your already carring a weakend version of the 9mm.

The smallest guns I carry concealed is a couple tiny 3" barreled .45s,a couple titaninum .44 special snubbys, and just got the wife a J frame s & w .38 airweight, while it's strictly hers,I like it so well I'm thinking about getting 1 of the .357 versions for myself. Naturally I can't speak for the other guys, but I'm pretty sure they,as I,consider 9mm to be just too small for PRIMARY carry gun,and carry a .380 as second, last ditch, last effort gun in case they're disarmed, primary gun inoperable,or some other reason they can't use primary carry gun. The key word here is PRIMARY. While I understand the concept well of carrying 2 concealed carry guns,I just can't bring myself to carry a mouse gun or "jesus" gun as I call it. Jesus gun means that by the time I HAVE to draw it-SOMEBODY'S fixing to meet JESUS! I'm sure emptying 1 of these tiny mouse guns in somebody's face WILL contribute greatly to winning the fistfight that follows,I'll stick with my .44s,.45s,or 1 of those lil .357s if/when I get 1. I'll just say there IS "a reason" why most LEO dropped the 9mm in favor of the .40 :D
