What are the requirements for transporting a handgun in a vehicle or carrying one while hunting. I know you cannot carry one while bow hunting but what about other types of hunting.

If you are transporting a handgun in a vehicle and don't have a carry conceal, it is best to just keep it in the glove compartment and make the officer aware of it first thing. As far as taking it hunting, you just need to keep it on your side in the open. Open carry is legal in KY, you just can't conceal it without a permit. So as long as you are carrying in plain view while hunting you should be fine, unless there is a game law I don't know about.

Pretty sure you can't have one while crossbow hunting. Not sure about muzzleloader. I was more concerned about the vehicle transport and carrying a 22 while small game hunting.

KDFWR site is pretty clear on what you can and can't have during specific seasons, but as far as your situation...
KY law states that you can carry your handgun in the factory glove compartment.
Open carry of a rimfire handgun is not a problem while small game hunting.

You can open carry in this state as well, of course there are restrictionso n where you can carry. The glove box is the only place you could put your handgun, and do not reach for anything when the officer pulls you over. ALSO it is not a wise idea when the officer approaches you to say "i have a gun" because there could be another officer on the other side of your vehilce that hears that and all hell could break out. Just tell him you are carrying in your glove box and keep your hands in plain view and just ask the officer what he/she would like you to do.

One more thing...
DO NOT confuse your center console with a glove box. It is not the same thing.

You can only carry a muzzle loading pistol during ML season. No modern firearms.

I believe if you are hunting turkeys or deer you cannot carry both a rifle or shotgun and a pistol too but I could be wrong. I meant shotgun and pistol while turkey hunting. They dont spell out this about carrying a pistol and rifle in the hunting guide. ( for general hunting) I called Frankfort a while back
