Guys... I have to brag a little on Calloway County Laker football. First time in our schools history were in the final-4 of div. 4-A. We won the first region championship tonight defeating Allen Co. Scotsville...42-26.
I think were headed to play Bullit East and Bell Co. plays Boyle Co. Winner of those two games meet at Papa Johns December 13 for the championship.
Calloway has a lot to be proud of.... our Laker Band finished 2nd at state 4-A, Cross Country Track took 2nd at state 3-A and now were nearing a state title with football.
I'm proud of all these kids and hope the success continues.

It is great when the hometown kids do well. I wish them well next weekend.
I've got my own battle on my hands next weekend. X plays Trinity, but more importantly Kentucky plays Ohio State University at hockey. Sonny Boy is going to get his introduction to the Big Ten.

Looked him up and he sounds like a heckuva player. Good size as well.
Btw, my friends son is a running back at North Bullitt and was just named one of the finalist for mister football. Unfortunately for him, they lost last night and his high school career is over. He was just a little short of 7000 career rushing yards.

What do you all think about having 6 classes? My self- I think it was really watered down the level of competition. Yea, I can understand why a state like Georgia may need 6 classes, but not Kentucky. What say you?

Originally, I was a skeptical of the six division scheme. I thought it would be watered down as well. After this year, I've warmed up to it some. Kentucky is kind of a unique state. While we have two national top-25 teams with over 1400 make students, we also have schools with 300 kids. While the divisions may be a little thin on teams and there are probably AA teams that could beat AAA teams and so forth, generally speaking, this system matches up teams from schools with roughly equivalent talent pools. I'd guess that a school in Paintsville with 300 boys and a school in Paducah with 300 boys would have roughly equal talent, more or less. Then it becomes teamwork, coaching, luck and heart to decide whether the big trophy is in the mountains or in the flatlands. Either one would have their hands full with St. X, Trinity, LexCath, Henry Clay, Male and the likes. It's not that those schools are inherently better football schools. It's that they have far greater pools of talent from which to draw. If truly gifted football players are one in a hundred, our examples of Paintsville and Paducah would likely have 3 greats year in and year out, while the other schools mentioned would have 10 or 15. It's truly a numbers game.
This theory is really provable. Let's look at basketball. While St. X might dress a hundred varsity football players, they only dress 10 basketball players, same as Paintsville or Paducah. I like my chances of picking ten good players out of 300 than picking 50 or a hundred. History, of course, bears this out. As mighty as St.X has been in football is about as poor as they've been in basketball. Again, it's nothing good or bad against any school. It's a numbers game. If it were possible to consolidate all of the schools in less populated areas so that you had 1000 boys from which to choose, you'd find that those teams would become 6-A powerhouses pretty quickly.
The present system seems to be working. Every area of the state will be represented, not because the system has been designed for everyone to feel good about having a shot, but because it pits schools of similar resources and talent pools against each other. I'd say those boys from Calloway County will bust their keisters and work just as hard as Mighty St. X will, when they play in the semis. They'll be just as happy when they win as they will be sad if they lose.

I''ve known this kid since middle school... he & my daughter are the same grade.... their juniors this year. I watched this kid in the 8th grade punt the ball from one end zone to the other end zone...just for fun. He's a heck of a runningback but honestly he is not a bad quarterback and like most our kids... play offense & defense.
He averaged over 200 yds rushing in the last two games and I believe 175 last night against a very good Allen Co. team. If he can keep focused...he will play D-1 and possibly looked at by the pros.
Brockman, Gardner, Dobbins, .... heck all of them .. have done good. Its a very special group of kids this season. Hope they keep going...two more games.

On the far western end... I think it put things right. As far as watered down... could be for play-offs within respective districts but it does'nt stop having a tough schedule. We play 1-A through 6-A teams through the season to keep the level of competition up.
We have a good coach and his belief is Calloway will play anyone, anytime, anywhere... no ones culled. If we get our butts beat... its a learning experience. Were 11-2 as of now... with that type of schedule & play-off games.

Hope to see ya there but I think Bell Co will be a spoiler for Boyle, both are 13-0 and theyve got close to a hundred more points on the board for the season and most of thier games were blowouts. Although, Knox central did give them a run for thier money last night.Boyle had a good run back in the 90s and I'm glad to see them back in championship form. But it sure was a b***h being a rebel back in my day:eek:. Good luck to ya

Nice post T. That put things into perspective for me. While the new system is guilty of giving a lot more teams a crack at state, it does match schools together with equal resources.

I know Josh and work with his brother, Jeremy. A nicer couple of guys you'll never meet. Handy fellers to have around on moving day, too.

I will have to agree with you Drakeshooter. After meeting the coach and talking with him seem's like he has his head squarely on his shoulder's and his duck's in a row.
