Wanted some oppinions, my fil gave my stepson a remington model 7 in a .260 I had never heard of this caliber. so any input would be great.
the cartridge was released around 10 years ago..
recoil isn't bad
low enough for a young shooter
pretty flat shooting out to 300 yards
decent knockdown
enough for any hunting we would do around here
if you search the internet I am sure you can find ballistics info on different factory loads

Love my custom. It shoots great and will reach way out there. Good round that is hard to beat for just about anything this area has to offer to shoot at.JMHO---Mike Ezell

Jim Carmichael claims to have developed it in the 90's. I'm sure he did, but I'm also sure it had previously been cooked up in hundreds of machine shops all the way back to the 1950's when the .308 Winchester (7.62 Nato) was introduced.
The 260 Rem is just the 308 Win squeezed down to hold a .264 bullet. Same deal for the 243 Winchester, 7mm-08, which uses a .284 bullet, and the 358 Winchester, which blows the neck out to accept the larger .358 bullet.
All those cartridges are great for anything we could need here in Kentucky. The only kick against the 260 is that it isn't quite as popular as the others and ammuniton could be hard to find. It's basically a 243 Win with a slightly larger bullet.
If I got a good deal on one, I'd sure buy it.

I got one in a ruger, really flat shooting gun. Recoil not bad at all but Iam used to a 300 win mag. Killed 2 deer with it this year using 129 gr hornady sst behind 37 gr of varget. Niether one ran over 10 yards. But hard to get ammo for it unless you reload, the main reason I started reloading. Glad I got into it though with the high price of ammo these days I couldnt afford to shoot if I didnt.

I've been shooting my Ruger 260 for around 8 years now and never had a problem. Recoil is not bad at all and never shot a deer I couldn't find. Also don't have a problem finding shells for it. Core-lokt and federal fusion shells everywhere for them. Good gun to have, also heard that they quit manufacturing them in full size, only youth models offered now.
