Read Savage Serial Numbers?

I just picked up a Savage 93R17 from a buddy that needed to free up a little cash. Can anyone tell me how to read the serial numbers? Wondering when it was made.

I'm not sure how to read the serial numbers on Savage rifles. But since it is a 17hmr, it probably isn't very old. The only info I could find was about older models. Here is a link to the savage FAQ section where they tell you about the older model history. This may be of some help to you.

Thanks for the info. I called the Savage customer service line and they were able to give me the manufacture date. It's a little older than I thought and no acutrigger. Made in May of 2003. Was having trouble finding scope bases. It needs Weaver 16. Thought that they would be easy to find but no local stores have them in stock. Guess I'll have to order online but didn't want to wait. Looks like it will be fun to shoot
