You need to upgrade to a good scope. I've seen this so many times it's not funny. People top their rifle with a cheaper scope that "fits their budget" at the time, only to have it fail them later when they need it. Go with a weaver, nikon, burris, bushnell elite series,or leupold (at least a vx2-NOT rifleman or vx1). Put a good scope on your rifle and it'll outlast you. An added side effect is that you'll shoot better-both due to the better tracking/adjustment abilities of the superior scope AND your added confidence because you KNOW it'll now shoot exactly where you sighted it in at.

After many years of using Simmons Pro 50 Scopes, I recently changed all my Deer Rifles to either Leupold VX II 50's or Swift 50's. I wasn't disappointed.

Yep, change the scope. Wait until it gets wet in the rain you really can't see anything. I had the 44 mag version and it shot nice groups in the summer on a clear day, but give it some weather and it would fog up all the time. I have either Leupold VXII's or Nikons now and they are worth the extra cash. Put the simmons on a .22 you will be happier.

I would take it off and throw it in the food dehydrator or over a heating vent for a week or two. Maybe you can drive some of that moisture out. Then like everyone has said, I would get a better scope for your deer rifle or maybe just go with my favorite, iron sights.

Get a Nikon. 200$ at Wally World can't beat'm! might find'm cheaper on eBay! I've had the same problem with Bushnells! Like someone else said put it on a .22 and snipe some tree weasles!

Long ago,I tried to dry scopes out without any success. The reason for this is they are charged with nitrogen under pressure. When the nitrogen leaks out,the scope will partially fill with air. Since nitrogen is a dry gas and normal air is somewhat "wet",once the scope fogs up internally,it'll do so every time it's exposed to weather (humidity) or temp difference.
From checking last time I went to wal-mart,the nikon 2.5x-7x-32mm prostaff scopes were 129.97 +tax and the 3x-9x-40mm prostaffs were 149.97+tax. It's going to be pretty hard to get a scope in this price range that's going to perform better than these nikons.

Once the seal is broken the scope is junk.....Toss it in the trash or use it on a toy gun for your kids and then go out a buy a Nikon and never look back!

Got a simmons on my 30-30.. Have used this gun and scope for 12 plus years and haven't had the first problem with the scope.. Been rained on, snowed one, blown out of my stand, and fought frost bite while using this scope.. It's just like everything else, sometimes you get a bad one.. I'm sure that somewhere in the world someone has purchased a bad Nikon..

Yep, I'm sure someone can tell us a story of a bad Nikon. I sell them and use them....have yet to see a bad one though.---Mike Ezell

Just saying that not all Simmons are junk.. I have put mine through the test and still use it without problems.. Not picking on Nikon, but even the top of the line products are capable of letting a bad one get through..

12 years ago Simmons made a half way desent product for the money and so has Tasco for that matter, but they have never made anything near the quality of a Nikon......

I've never seen one priced anywhere near a Nikon either...
Just sayin'...
We use a lot of Simmons scopes because they do the job just fine for what we need (most shots are under 100 yards on deer.) Sure it'd be nice to get a nicer scope, but I have problems paying for 'premium' optics when the 'junk' more than does what I need.

I think that a Nikon is of better value....Compare a Simmons Aetec to a Nikon Prostaff and tell me which one is cheaper .......

Been holding off on posting anything about how great my Alpen scope is, but check out the latest issue of Field & Stream, page 134. They compared five brands of spotting scopes; an $83.00 Alpen, a $770.00 Brunton, a $196.00 Bushnell, a $450.00 Minox, and a $1,001.00 Nikon. "Best of the Test" goes to...the $83.00 Alpen.
Keep in mind that I have a Nikon scope on my Savage .22, and it is a fine scope, but I also think that the Alpen on my BAR is a fine scope too. The three deer I shot in the head with the BAR/Alpen a couple weeks ago may not think much of the combination, but I do.
I do think that with a Nikon and some of the other big names, you pay a lot just for the name plate. If you have lots of money and can afford it, go ahead and buy the Nikon or other big name scope. If you're a regular working stiff on a tight budget, buy an Alpen.

I heard someone else saying what good scopes those were for the dough a few months ago. I may have to give one of them a shot next time I need a scope.
I don't give a rat's butt about brand names or anything like that, what I want out of a scope is ruggedness, reliability, and repeatability. If Simmons scopes did all of that for me I'd have them on all of my rifles. I don't have them on any of my rifles.

I never said they weren't a better value, but they still cost more! And before we get into that, let me just state that when I talk about "Simmons scopes" I'm referring only to the $40-50 '8 Point' or whatever it's called. As I said before, it's all the scope I need for what I do. Yes, Nikon makes a better scope, but I don't need it... so I don't see the point in spending the extra dough personally. Whatever you use is cool with me.

at the same time your using a 30-30 and judging a scope......... the 30-30 isn't accurate enough to know if a scope tracks properly or holds adjustment correctly or not....... when your shootin 4-6 inch groups at 100 an inch here or there wont matter.. but bring those groups down to 3/4" and you will have a problem

What??? Who says a 30-30 can't be accurate???

It depends on how you define "accurate". The 30-30 cartridge can be very accurate but not what I call accurate in the guns that are commonly chambered for it. That said, I still think that a good ol' 30-30 lever action is all anybody needs for deer hunting in the woods. Step out into the open fields and then it's a different ballgame. ---Mike Ezell

I have never heard of a Alpen, I will look them up, I am looking for a brand to buy, I have a simmons on my 30/06 and it is hard to adjust, so hard that if you are not care full the rubber will slip in the tube and you have to spend 2-3minutes getting it back on. also when it starts to get dark it whites out bad, even on clear days the eye relief is real narrow. I have a glenfield scope on my 30/30 and can see 4 - 5 minutes later with it then I can with the simmons. I used to make fun of the people that spent more on the scopes then they did on the rifles, but I am starting to see after buying 2-3 scopes trying to get one to satisfy me and taking time to sight it in and buying ammo, it is a pain.

Doesnt Simm ons have a lifetime guarantee. I have 2 or them and have not had any problems. However I have busnells weavers and Leupolds which are a lot better for sure. And I hear the Nikons are real good as others have said good luck

how about adding BSA to the list. I am thinking of either the Bushnell Banner 6-24-40 or the BSA side wheel focus 8-32-44 (i think). Going to put it on a Savage.

I don't think very much of bsa or banners at all-UNLESS you're going to put them on an inexpensive .22 used informally.
