View Full Version : Strange thing in Wal-mart

I was in the Wal-mart in North Lexington today purchasing my liscense. While I was filling out the migratory bird suvey, a man walked up to the Sporting goods counter and asked about buying a shotgun choke. He then went on to brag about the big Tom he had busted yesterday morning on his farm. He said that was why he needed a choke becuase the pattern on his shotgun was so wide that he destroyed his decoy in the process.
Being the subtile person I am I asked him if he knew that season didn't gome in until Thursday. He replied that is was his farm and season came in when he heard the first gobble. He paid for his choke and left with out saying another word.
I tried to read his name on his credit card when he paid but I couldn't make out the last name.
I can't believe people have such disrespect for laws.[:(!][:(!]

l_c_s,
Unfortunately this type of thing happens more than what people think. Some landowners tend to believe because the animals are on their farms that they own them so to speak and will drop a deer or turkey whenever they want. I'd just told the guy his land or not, he was a poacher.

What a prick this guy. To bad you couldn't have gotten his name. Not that you could have really done anything with it.

god put game on this earth to eat not to be regulated.
some people get all too hung up on man's laws.
if i owned a farm with turkey on it i'd have already had some.
some of you sound like a bunch of old ladies.

Hillbilly, if the game wasn't regulated we wouldn't have any.........
If you owned a farm and had already shot some....then you would be breaking the law. And you would sound/would be a poacher.

Hey Hillbilly...I know someone who gets really hung up on laws and regulations, The Game Warden. If he catches you, you will be sorry.
This site is for ethical, law abiding sportsmen and women not poachers [:(!]

Hey Hillbilly,
You're the reason we have game laws, seasons, regulations, game wardens, no trespassing signs, county jails, jail overcrowding and so on. Your way of thinking or inability to think is neither needed nor wanted on this site.[:D]Thanks.

GUYS,
Don't waste your time replying to clowns like hillbilly, they will never change in their way of thinking. Everyone has opinions, even unethical hunters with disregard to the law. Just thank God that they are in the very small minority of hunters out there.

I think hillbilly's comments are fueled by one of 2 things or both. He is stupid or he is just trying to make comments like that to upset people. It really shows his lack of being taught any good solid morals while growing up. We should pity him.
A bad day hunting is better than a good day at work.

I don’t think this way, and I hunt both ethically and morally, nor am I taking up for Hillbilly. However, I don’t think Hillbillys thinking is that uncommon. I think a lot of people have that train of thought, especially in rural Kentucky. I think it stems from tradition in familys. I don’t think it was long ago, when the only way some families (especially in rural KY) put meat on the table was from hunting, and farming. I think this is exactly where this thinking and attitude comes from. Hillbilly isn’t the first person I’ve heard say it.

I am new on this site and I do not agree with hillbilly but I can see that the names and remarks that some have implied offends me very much. I am a christian man and I believe these remarks are not necessary. I hope that this is not habitual.

Putting food on the table and providing for the family unregulated is what got our wildlife populations in the position they were in at the beginning of the 20th century! I'm quite sure the buffalo hunters, market duck hunters, and beaver trappers and so on were just providing for their families when they nearly wiped our country clean of it's greatest resources!!!! Only the native americans had enough sense to maintain the resources. Think if every yahoo that owned 20 acres decided in the off season they needed a little venison for the table. Pretty soon deer would be scarce again. The laws are there to protect us and the wildlife. If I decide my bank account is a little low I don't go down town and rob a bank! Besides the fact that I know it's not morally right, there are laws prohibiting it! Same thing with game laws, problem is they are enforced so lightly or not at all, these crooks can afford to keep pressing their luck.

man it is easy to get some of you going...lol...
just because i have mixed views on taking game on one's own land doesn't mean i can be put in a group with the morons who killed off all the buffalo. i deplore the slaughter of anything. i just think what one does on his own land should be his business unless it infringes on someone else.
a little common senxe should be the law.
don't blow a gasket guys.
only one more day.

The problem with your thinking is that the game on ones land doesn't belong to him--it belongs to the State. Killing the States game out of season is a crime. I know several guys that would turn in their own mother for killing a turkey out of season, so poachers beware.
"The problem with your thinking is that the game on ones land doesn't belong to him--it belongs to the State. Killing the States game out of season is a crime."
Back in England, before the US Revolution, all game was considered to be owned by the King. And if you took it, you were punished typically by death.

It does infringe on someone. Your neighbors. If people were starving, that would be one thing. But our welfare system keeps that from happening. Wild game belongs to the State (the PEOPLE), Landowners are managers. We manage the habitat & environment the animals live in. If I decide to allow or not to allow someone to hunt, that is MY RIGHT. But to violate game laws is a no no. WE all hate a thief. Poaching is STEALING. To fuss & gripe about poachers, only to "OPEN" season when you want to because YOU own the land, MAKES YOU A POACHER.

If it is against the law then it is morally wrong. My boys and I went out on their granddad's farm early last Sunday to scout. We took a shotgun in case a coyote made things interesting. Of course, a gobbler made it interesting, too. Tempting for the boys, but what kind of lesson would I have taught them had I let them shoot? No one would have known but me, but I would have never forgotten what I did. Nor would they.

i am also new to these forums, having moved from florida, to gods country in 2000. The game in florida is owned by the state, excluding the feral hog, it is the land owners, if it moves to another property, it has a new owner. It is great to be back here in Ky. i used to drive 7 1/2 hrs one way to hunt..... makes for a long weekend.
