gun has been shot less than 30 times. once every few shots you'll pull the trigger, and nada, nothing..... the bolt ain't shut all the way, originally thought it was a problem with my handloaded bullets with bullet depth being a problem, but nope, factory ammo does the same thing...... and sometimes it will close, and there is no way possible you can get it back by pulling on it, i'll take a wood dow and set on the thing and smack it with a hammer and it will open.......... whats up with it?

what kind of ammo u shoot?

doesn't matter what kind, reloads and remington do the same.....

i don't think there has to be a shell in it when it gets stuck sometimes

Scott I would try to do a complete disassembly of the gun. Cleaning and checking every part for some type of burr or dirt somewhere first. Gas operated can be picky.

I'm thinking it could be a burr or something of that nature.. Cause one time it won't close all the way, next thing you know you can't get the sucker open.. and we all know how much those safari auto's cost nowadays.

thats what I would try before anything else since all the ammo you have tried ends up with the same results

It does not sound like a ammo problem. Disassemble and clean the gun. If you cant find anything wrong and it still hangs up, send it to Browning or find a good gunsmith. Firearms Service Center in Louisville was a good place.

trust me

I've never disassembled a BAR but if you can, take it down. Run a cotton ball or a Q-Tip over every inch of the bolt and the raceways. The cotton will tell you where the rough spots are. If it jams that tight, there is a burr somewhere. While you've got it apart, degrease and clean everything, using degreaser or ether, nothing oily.

Have you ever drowned it in WD-40? WD-40 will evaporate and leave a lacquer coating on everything, throws all the tolerances out of whack.

I'm betting there's a burr somewhere that you can knock off with steel wool or a file.

i think your right.. i never use anything like wd on my guns, i try to stick with products designed for guns.. i use flitz on my actions and inside the barrel but other than that i use products such as butch's bore shine and bore butter, and just regular gun oil. I also use some moly stuff. but have never put anything like that on this rifle

I think you are correct about there being a burr. Take a good look at the slide. It sounds like there is either a burr on the slide or the reciever where the slide contacts it. I have the same gun in .30-06 I got new earlier this year. It has been nothing but spectacular. FYI they aren't going to make them too much longer.
