Core-Loct does a great job at a lower cost. Ballistic Tips do a great job at a higher cost. Use the one that shoots best in your rifle. If they shoot hte same and the extra bucks for the BT's make you feel better, go for it.

Core-lok best deer killing round out there IMO. Ballistic tips could be flatter shooting at longer ranges but they cost a considerably amount more.

the doe i shot last week with winchester ballistic silvertips had a hole you could stick your fist in. i love the way they shoot and there's no problem with blood trails.
On a soft tissue shot like heart/lung, no bone hit the ballistic tip will leave an exit about the size of a half dollar, vaporize the internal organs and suck them through the exit hole. With Core-loc the same exit hole will be about the size of 50 cent piece, vaporize the internal organs and suck them through the exit hole.
On a shoulder shot the ballistic tip will blow an exit hole about the size of baseball, the Core-loc will be about the size of an orange.
I would go with what my gun shot at MOD (Minute Of Deer) accuracy.;)

Well I shoot core lok's in my 270 and Ballistic tips in my .243. From my experience deer don't have a chance when either on hit's them. Although the ballistic tip will flat line'm in their tracks for shure with a shoulder shot. I shot a doe saturday morning with a ballistic tip. shot a little high and far back on her. but it went through the top part of both lungs and completly through her hart exploding it. some how it also grazed her spine and took out a rib. Needless to say she droped dead! the entry wound you could barely stick your pinky in. The exit was about the size of a coak can. My dad shot a buck one year through both shoulders with one. The enry was the size of your fist and the exit was indescribable! I would love to see a head shot with one of them!

Last year I shot a deer with core-lokts. This year I shot one with ballistic tips. When I checked on them, both deer were equally dead.

i have a 700 bdl 7mm rem mag and the federal nosler ballistic tip soon as it hits the skin it blows up makes a nasty flesh wound and the deer gets a way with the rem cor lokt if you hit the deer you got the deer.

Something is wrong their dude! Never heard of anyone haveing that problem before! I shot a button buck head on one time with a core lok. Shot just below the white patch on his neck. it went in and hit his spine and dicentigrated his whole front portion of his neck! Needless to say it knocked him over backward and hes was dead!:D

To answer your question....which ever one shoots best from your gun. Both will do the job.
My choice, Fusion (same as a Speer grand slam), Accubonds, or Hornady Interlocks. If your not a reloader, Federal loads the accubonds and interlocks are availabe in Hornady factory ammo. I think you can also get Federal with grand slams, but for the $$, the Fusion is basically the same bullet (if not the same) and the $$ is generally less.

My choice is ballistic tips as I'm a accuracy freak,I love to experiment and play around a lil (SAFELY and within specs) while working up loads. The noslor ballistic tips and sierras are THE 2 most accurate mass produced bullets available-IMO. I've seen shot and shot myself a lot of deer with these and I've NEVER seen a ballistic tip fail like previous poster described. Sure, ballistic tips are famous for expanding violently but they ALWAYS go in before they do.

If your only shooting whitetail, it really doesnt matter. When you get into the bigger game is when you really need to pay special attention to bullet design.

True-UNLESS you're an accuracy freak like I am and consider it hobby to perfect loads.

Everyone will have an opinion one which is best, but Chuck Hawks, whose opinion I take much more seriously than most, wrote an extremely interesting article on this. His conclusion was that other than accuracy/trajectory (already mentioned in this thread and directly above) there is really no killing difference at all for any thin or medium skinned North American game.
So, as said above, use which ever one your gun shoots best, is cheaper, or you like the looks of, because it really don't matter that much.
On a side note, not to beat up on anyone, but if you shoot a deer with a 7mm Mag and it runs off, or runs off and doesn't drop pretty quick, the fact your deer got away ain't got nothing to do with the type of bullet. Practice, practice practice, it's all about bullet placement, not bullet type or size.

Wow...that might be the most badly written post...well...ever. I’m going to hope you either wrote that on your I-Phone or were educated in a different state.
Anyways -- as has been said, both will do the same job equally well. Shoot them both, pick the one that shoots the best group. Zero in with it. Go hunting and fill the freezer.

Here's a pic of the exit wound of a ballistic tip:

also kind of looks like an entrance wound from a ballistic tip. I have seen both sides. My friend shot a mule deer 3 times with poor penetration. Yes, the deer died, so the bullet technically didn't fail, did it? I have also witnessed personally a failure to penetrate on a hog, on a quartering on shot. Mine was a .270 130 gr. My buddy's was a 7 mm. mag.
Now don't get upset...I personally have shot through shoulders and killed a bunch of other hogs and deer with it. It shot very accurate in my gun. My shot that didn't penetrate the hog was at 30 or so feet. so I understand that reaction. My buddy's was at 428 yards lazed, on the first shot, and 418 on the second. The third was under 200, but not lazed. I wouldn't have thought this would have happened, but I watched it unfold through my binos.
Don't ask me why, I don't know. I do know I have since went to TBBC and I haven't had a failure to penetrate. My friend will not use them any more for larger deer. PS the ballistic tip shot under an inch groups. The TBBC shoots about 2" or more.
Now this is just my experience, so don't get on me.

I shoot a 300 WSM and i shoot BT. The buck in my avatar i shot at 240 yards and i put it right on and i hit him in the heart. BTW, hit heart had a hole about the size of a quarter. I feel that they shoot very fast and very straight. I like them better.

I forgot to mention, 2 years ago, my brother took a head shot at a doe at about 300 yards. He aimed at the top of her ear and he hit the top of her ear. He said she was kinda stunned for a second because the percussion of the bullet but she ran off a few seconds later. That shows how flat these things shoot.
