I have been wondering about this myself,I wrote the KDFWR a couple of years ago to find out some info and they sent me some road #s and some info that was three or four years old.I cant remember for sure but Mccreary county seems to be where the info was about,I worked with a guy one time that went there and ran his dogs after hogs.I wish I could find a spot to go for them also, you find anything out let us know.

I'd like to find somewhere to hunt hogs as well.

I've heard some people say there are some down around Dale Hollow, but have never heard of anyone actually killing one down there...so I have my doubts.

My guess is hog hunting is best done out of state for us.

From what I can gather they are pretty localized. I tried to find them at Big South Fork a few years ago, got some pretty good directions for areas to try. Snow on the ground and hunting with a dog I never ran into them. They're coming though...

No hogs in LBL. Someone set some loose in zone 2 according to the authorities down there, but there have been no sign of them and they don't want them. They encouraged anybody who saw them (this was several years ago) to notify the wardens. Heard from a buddy in the KBA (they had their big hunt/camp there this past fall) that they biologist said no sign of them now. Chris.

There are hogs around Dale Hollow. Park ranger at Dale Hollow State Park told us there were several around the area and a guy named John Rush from Burkesville killed one down there a few years back and the pics used to hang in Strange Bait and Tackle where he worked part time.

Yes, both ends of southern McCreary county have them in some abundance compared to other areas. any of the federal land (excluding park land) should be good for them. When I was in highschool, there was a substantial wallow (waller) on the high road of Stevens Knob between hays creek in McCreary county and Buck creek in whitley co.

I use to coon hunt in sout western Bullitt county close to Bernheim about 10 years ago and we ran into them on several occassions. It was a scary thing to come across them in the dark like that. We were all young and had never encountered anything like that before.

There are definitely hogs in and around Bernheim Forest... but the director balked at giving permission to hunt them there as they are a problem. At first he said yes, then turned around and cried that the hogs were going nocturnal and that I should check back with him last June. He is hard to get a hold of and doesn't return calls, so I have given up and hope he gets his leg chewed off some day on a nature walk.

I have personally encountered a 250lb jet-black hog, tusks and all while turkey hunting far behind the cemetary at Taylorsville last year: standing 10 yds in front of him in tall grass and just staring at me was the biggest scare of my life. I figured (and others say correctly) that No. 5 shot would just give him a nice scab, so I backed my butt up and freaked out.... called my boss who is from Colorado and says that they only hunt them on horse-back out there for a reason!

Wonder if Bernheim would be opposed to trapping them?

I run my bird dog at Taylorsville right near that cemetary and have done some turkey hinting there as well. Might have to start keeping my eyes open for hogs.

Two were killed down the road from me aways back in late October, not very far from Benheim.

I dropped a deer off at a processor in Whitley Co. a few weeks ago and they had 4 hogs that were in the cooler with the deer. They were all solid black. 1 large hog and 3 small ones. The boy working said they were all killed by a deer hunter in Whitley Co. He didn't give up the location though.

Interesting. Which processor? Ours retired and even though we do our own it's always good to have a good one in the hip pocket.
