INKYHUNTER:

I'm sorry if you felt that I acted improperly but the facts as I saw them is that most all had said their piece and the thread was starting to get a little "hairy". Some of the posters were even growing wary of it. I closed it to send a message that we can debate peacefully but not argue. Heated arguments serve no usefull purpose and as far as certain ones haveing priveledge of what they say our own VP multi was one of the last posters as was a member [shogan] as well.

Don't get me wrong. I hate to hit the 'red button" but if I start to get conflictive I hope the button gets pushed on me.

As for Cyberhunters haveing dominance over the whole site I have to disagree. We have our own section and it is voluntary if you enter it. Since we have had our section very little of our business bleeds over to the other forums unless it is a " General " issue.

If you have further discussionas about 4 wheelers and tree steps by all means start another topic. As long as it is civil you can discuss the subject until 4 wheelers are obsolete.

I can assure you I am not a communist and I fear the responsibility of Moderator is not one that is fun. It's kind of like being an umpire. To some you will be a hero and to some a heel.

I extend to you my hand as a fellow hunter and hope it is likewise but I made the call and I will stick with it.

Now lets dust the plate off and get back to playing ball.

Extreme... It's your call on what post to edit, delete or thread to lock. That goes with the job of being a mod. Only six post on the thread you locked an you felt like it had ran it's course. I for one would have taken more offence to the thread..Why Cyber-Hunter's... With the often mentioned free porn than a discussion on banning things such as screw in steps or ATV's. If it is the intention of those who moderate the forums here to keep this site as one a persons child could visit then post like the free porn ones should be looked at closer. Don't take this personally please, just my opinion as a fellow Moderator. Yes I am a mod on one of the biggest outdoor forums on the net an deal with problems same as you but in over two years as a mod I have not had to edit but ONE post an never had to lock one. We have found if you let a thread die a natural death things work out for the best.

Duster:

It was actually a continuation of the screw in steps thread. It had ran it's course as far as I was concerned.

Gentlemen, right or wrong I did what I thought was right. No Shogan you have not ruined anything. Our problem is on here at times we can post but we can't see each other and make eye contact. Most of us know each other and in so know how the other one thinks and how their sense of humor is. The ones we have not met yet can be mistaken as haveing said offensive remarks when no harm was meant.
Duster, I have monitored some of these other sites and I just don't want to see Cyberhunters turn into a place where furballs are common. I feel that EVERY member is above that.

Lets all take a deep breath and just stop and think. I bear NO ONE any hard feelings and I hope the feeling is mutual. I feel sorry for Valley Station as he probably feels like he started a crap storm when all he wanted was a good discussion.

Please come back Valley as I have noticed you have been gone. It's safe now as the opposition have worn their teeth out on my rear[:D][:o)][;)][}:)] end.

I guess you just have to love it[;)] Once again....Valley Station come home!!

Duster, as the person who got the "free porn" thing started, I sincerely apologize if you or anyone found it distasteful. It HONESTLY never entered my mind that anyone would be offended by those words. It was merely a lame attempt at humor, added to a sincere post about something I am proud/excited to be a part of-Cyberhunters.

My thoughts were that anyone who read that would find it so ridiculous that it would maybe give them a chuckle. I thought it would be viewed as a cheesy, desperate attempt to get MULESKINNER to come down from the fence, on the Cyberhunter's side.

I'll be honest, the thing you said about posts like mine needing to be looked at, in case children are visiting. That bothers me. A LOT. On the one hand, it kills me to think that ANYTHING I've ever said on here would cause a child's parents to feel this site is not child-friendly. Mine are still pre-schoolers, and friends usually laugh at how over-protective I am of them. Then on the other hand, I THINK that any child who is old enough to visit here and read these posts is probably aware that there are indeed thousands of free porn sites on the web, and that maybe joking about them will somehow make them less interesting....?

Again, I apologize if I've offended anyone.

Just a question for all. What in the world is going on here?????
There seems to be something here that I really missed. There was 2 threads open (and as a few minutes ago, they still were) debating screw pegs and 4-wheelers. Then a thread started about the 2 combined with the subject turning to who wasn't playing fair, followed by Time-out" go to your rooms, to Socialist take-over, to Communist control!!!!!!

Folks, this ain't life or death. If I offened someone, say so! I will appoligize.
I know I spend a lot of time on the computer, that's how I make a living. I enjoy this place and the people here. I come here to learn and to get away from work!
There is great input here and I've learned some great things here.

As for people not seeing eye-eye on subjects. I have had arguements on one subject with Duckdawg over 3 different sites. We ended up agreeing on one thing, we were NOT going to agree! All this was done in a civilized manner. I've never met the fellow, though I hope to soon. He sounds like a super nice sportsman.
Look at most of Multi's and my post, we seldom agree the sky is blue!
I can't help it that he's color-blind![:D]
Even though we do not agree I respect his opinion and try seeing his view point. His arguements have changed my opinion on some things, as have others here.
As for posting something that would offend children. This one is a slippery slope. I have a 12 year old daughter and I am a protective parent. Just my opinion, a public forum is not a place for a child to be with out their parent looking over their shoulder. Actually, the internet is not a place to be without a parent.
As for my comments on porno? sorry, I'll let Shogan describe what is over on, "the dark side".

Please email me if I have offened you.

Richard... I am adult enough to know that the porn thing was an attempt at humor BUT what if you had a person who didn't know or catch it being a joke. Let's just say a pastor came across this website an saw the post Why Cyber-Hunters. Now they start reading why they should belong to this organization an a couple post down run across the free porn post an the more they read the more about porn shows up. What do you think they would think of the posters an members of Cyber-Hunters ? I just felt the post didn't belong in an answer to the fellow who ask the question. We operate under a simple set of rules on the site I moderate. NO Porn, No Personal Attacks, No Profanity, No Spam. So far it's worked real well with those who post there. Now the membership stands at over 1200 so ya gotta know we have a few , make that very few who stir the pot. What has been started with the organization of the Cyber-Hunters may turn out to be a great organizaton in time. Just think how others see post before you hit that Submit Reply button. I hate to see an organization get a bad reputation before they even get both feet off the ground.

And FYI I am not a pastor....LOL

"If your heart is pure you are 20 feet closer to God in a treestand".......Good luck all and remember......In the wind Fred is still alive. By the same token he is still alive when the dogs first hit the ground on a crisp fall morning. He is alive when a kid catches their first fish, when a beagle pup jumps it's first rabbit or a young hounds first tree.....I grow weary of arguments....It's time I go to bed and awake to what I love.....Peace.

Xtreme,Good luck tomorrow!!

Now...if you feel a need to make me the first person to be removed from Cyberhunters, I understand. But I gotta get this off my chest.

Disclaimer: The following tirade has nothing to do with my membership with Cyberhunters, UBK, NRA, NWTF.

Duster, I realize there is irony in the fact that I'm about to act self-righteous in defending my post, given that my subject matter was 'free porn'. I know you have good in your heart, and you have nothing to gain by speaking your convictions. I guess what surprises me is that I've been saddened by some of the negative comments I've seen here from time to time, and then to be made feel like I've been taken to task for the mere mention of Porn-not even porn itself.
I do appreciate you responding, and especially in the polite manner in which you did so. I will try to answer you point-by-point.

"Richard... I am adult enough to know that the porn thing was an attempt at humor"...Attempt?..Ok, that one just hurt a bit.[:I] Seriously, maybe I'm tootin' my own horn, but I think maybe a few people actually thought it WAS humorous. I think Rush Limbaugh calls it "Illustrating absurdity by being absurd".

"BUT what if you had a person who didn't know or catch it being a joke."...OK, YOU personally ARE adult enough to know it was an attempt at humor, but other people AREN'T adult enough? WHO would look at this and think, "MY goodness, they have free porn on Cyberhunters!"?

"Let's just say a pastor came across this website an saw the post Why Cyber-Hunters. Now they start reading why they should belong to this organization an a couple post down run across the free porn post an the more they read the more about porn shows up. What do you think they would think of the posters an members of Cyber-Hunters ?"...I'm a Southern Baptist. I've had the privilege of being around a LOT of pastors in my lifetime. Most (admittedly not all) were outstanding, inspirational men, who are a joy to be around. I feel I've learned a lot by getting to spend time with them, in and out of church. I've never met a man of GOD who was stupid enough to take that post anything like seriously. What do I think they would think of the posters an members.....? HOW DARE YOU! Assuming they DID take it seriously (again, unbelievable) they would probably think that maybe they needed to get to work on rlb165's soul. Are you trying to say that a pastor would see something like that and what, run away? At the very worst, I could see that maybe they would think something like "Boys will be boys." In my honest opinion, you insulted and underestimated pastors with that part.

"I just felt the post didn't belong in an answer to the fellow who ask the question."...Ok, your opinion, fine. I can't argue that it DID belong. I can only say that the person asking the question has illustrated a pretty good sense of humor from time to time, and I thought maybe he would think it was funny. Or at least an "attempt" to be funny.

"We operate under a simple set of rules on the site I moderate. NO Porn, No Personal Attacks, No Profanity, No Spam."...Those sound like fine rules. I felt like I was Personally Attacked when you started discussing with another Moderator something I had written. Put yourself in my shoes. You're reading along and all of a sudden: "What the heck? He is discussing something I wrote, and I was looking forward to seeing what kind of responses I got."

"What has been started with the organization of the Cyber-Hunters may turn out to be a great organizaton in time."... I think it already is, but I agree with your sentiment on that part.

"Just think how others see post before you hit that Submit Reply button."...That part just sounds condescending. That you would say that AFTER I already made a post that began and ended with an apology, it really feels like you're pushing too hard, considering it was just two little words.

"I hate to see an organization get a bad reputation before they even get both feet off the ground."...Given where Cyberhunters is, considering that it was just an idea a few weeks ago, I seriously doubt that one or two off-color remarks (or even just making a reference to something off-color) every now and then is gonna give the organization a bad reputation. In my opinion, if we start off by being the proverbial sticks in the mud, we'll be like a lot of other hunting organization-NEVER getting our feet off the ground, cause we don't look like we're having any fun.

rlb....I didn't mean to come across as a personal attack on you as there was more than one post in that thread that mentioned porn. I was useing that post to try and make a point. From what I have seen on visits to this forum overall it's not a bad site. Now that you have disected my post bit by bit I could take that as a personal attack myself but I don't. What I have seen in the past few days is a thread locked by a moderator IMO because of what was getting to be a heated discussion. A discussion over if screw in steps should be outlawed statewide. I didn't see ONE profane word, not ONE personal attack, Not anything out of the norm for any outdoor site I frequent. Yet the boys will be boys thought never came into play there now did it. If you visit ANY web site eventually you will have this heated discussion thing pop up. One thing that got to me was the apathy by posters on that thread. The words... I DON'T USE so ban them if you want raises the hackles on the back of my neck. I don't hunt deer with a handgun but would I say it would be ok to ban them...NO..I would stand beside you to defend your right to use one if you want. To much apathy by one faction of sportman against the other has done more harm to the sport of hunting then the anti's ever have. Again SORRY if you took my post as personal attack be assured it wasn't ment to be one.

If those in charge of this site feel I need to be banned for speaking my piece than so be it. I wish you the best of luck with your organization because from what I see the entire forum not just the cyber-hunters PUBLIC forum needs some work if it wants to grow.

Duster, THANK YOU for responding. When I dissected your post, I wasn't trying to personally attack you either. I don't like being disagreeable, and when I am I feel I owe it to the person to explain exactly what my points are.

I agree with you completely on the apathy issue. I've posted several times about low deer #'s in my area despite being in a Zone 1 county. Its been very dis-heartening to see the "Hey, I see lots of deer, the Dept's doin a great job!" kind of response. I equate that to the screw-in step referral you made.

As far as those in charge of this site banning you...hey, if they do, you can come to my house and use my computer. I want to hear what you have to say.

Thank You.

Multi, my farm is now officially a self-imposed "ZONE 5."

ZONE 5-Need rapid, accelerated growth; Landowner showing major signs of dementia; making posts on Bulletin Board which exceed 5 feet from top to bottom; Fertility drugs optional; Catch and release from over-populated areas to be considered.

Deer to be shot ONLY in self-defense; protection of property not justified. Shoot-to-wound only.

On a happy note, there were 8 turkeys in my winter wheat while ago. When they leave, I'm gonna go set a blind up there, and probably hunt this afternoon.

Sorry you had to work today.

I'll say that my farm, in Grayson, near Caneyville is flat loaded with turkeys. We do see a deer every now and then, but the poachers keep them pretty thin. We normally see turkeys in our clover several times a day. They can't be travelling very far from the field.

Don't feel bad about not hunting opening day rlb. It's a L-o-n-g season an only going to get better closer to the rut. I haven't had a good day today myself an it didn't have much to do with hunting. After the big rains yesterday I decieded to check on my boat over at the dock to make sure the auto bilge pump was working OK. Hopped on my NEW Yamaha Big Bear an headed out, got a little ways from the house an it popped once an died. Now it won't start [:(] Did one of yall put a curse on me or what [:D]. I walked back home just in time to return a phone call from one of this web site members. I met a very nice young man an took him on a little trip to the peabody area I used to hunt an showed him around. I hope a big buck crosses his path this afternoon an he get a good shot at him. I gave away Dartons spot I had picked out for him think he would be upset if this young man takes a B&C class buck out of this spot..[:D]

Okay, I finally made it here tonite. No, no deer. Saw some this eve but no shots. Edie D. is watching a WHOPPER!....We have been seeing him regular but not tonite. Turkeys flying down and makeing a ruckus messed me up this morning.

Anyway, BS aside. Let me hopefullty clarify my actions...this will be the last lick I make on this dead horse. I have recieved some private E-mails as well as talked to a person on the phone that said as long as names like Ben Dover were used that it made us look less than professional. Very few private mails do I get regardeing anything other than on going bizz by officers. I took notice of this and the fact that I as well as several members do not like to see "discussions" turned into fur balls.
I hit the red button on the 4 wheeler deal and like I said. I'll live with it. If anyone wants to throw a rock at me then fine , throw it hard as my skin is getting thicker by the day.

Duster:...As for your apathy remark. You are 125% correct. In my post/reply I was apathetic. I regard screw in steps as a potential way to get hurt. So are motorcycles, 4 wheelers and jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. I've done all three. I should have stated that I don't use them but if you do that's fine. I APOLOGIZE PROFUSELY! You have to overlook me. I'm at the age where motorcycles and parachuteing make me think of pain as do slipping on a screw in step and hanging something that I might need /want to keep.[:D]

Humor is a part of life. So are disagreements. I just wanted to remind folks that there is a fine line between heaven and hell.

My main concern is that I have not seen or heard from Valley Station. I hope we have not run him off as he is a much valued and respectable member.

Gentlemen, I have just lit the peace pipe and took a big draw off of it and I extend it to anyone who is p/o'd at me. Being a president as well as a moderator entails some unpleasent burdens at times. I'm certainly not perfect but I do care and I give it my best.
