Does this make any sense ? Thats like voting for a heart surgeon rather than hire the person thats best for the job. I could get the job as coroner and not know anything about it. I just think this shouldn't be a job thats put out there for the public to pick.

Maybe you should cut the guy some slack. If I had to cut up dead people for a living I would probably have to self medicate as well. :D

I've known Mike for over 30 years and was shocked as well. I live across the street from him and in fact he showed me a couple of his food plots a week or two before his arrest. Where do you suppose those plants were located? When I saw his mug on the news with details of where they found the patch you couldn't have a drove a nail up my butt. All I could think was what if the raid had happened while I was there?

As far as the coroner voting thing, it just sort of goes along with the Kentucky "good old boy" thing that has been happening in this state since its formation.

I don't think there is any kind of qualification for any of those offices, they just have to win the vote.

As far as Coroner, dead is dead, that should be to hard. I think the coroner just has to confirm the death, they're not the medical examiner.

I know theres not, I just believe there should be..Why in the world do we give someone unbelievable authority without qualifications..The sheriff while not only a LEO administrator also has control over tax's and certain licenses. So we give him a badge, powers of arrest and control of our taxs just because his family bought the most votes ..A jailor is also a LEO administrator, a job that usually requires years of exp and training...All we get from jo bobs seconds cousins rich uncle is nepotism and incompetence in these offices..

I believe there's a state constitutional provision that would have to be changed - pretty certain there's something in there to the effect that elected officials can't be required to have any more qualifications than simply being elected, or somesuch. Which always makes me wonder why Circuit Clerk candidates have to pass a test first before they can be put on the ballot. The Circuit Clerk test is just a scam to keep already-elected people in office, I'm thinking.

If Sheriff, Jailer, Coroner, etc. were elected positions, you'd just see more of the same cronyism, nepotism, corruption, etc in their appointments. If they have to run, at least there's a chance the voters can boot someone out of office that needs booting.

What kills me is that the coroner is the top law enforcement official in his county. He can actually take over an investigation from any other police officer in his county. This from a office that can be had by anyone in the county. They only have to go to a short Coroners School at DOCJT. Maybe, If memory serves me right, 4 to 6 weeks. I know that police officers have to go 18 weeks to become certified. Than can pronounce you dead and take over the investigation with only 4to6 weeks of training. Not saying they do but its scary just knowing they can.
