After this weekend of firing 3 caps at a doe and the gun not going boom, I am in the market for a new muzzleloader. I have read many reviews online about 3 different ones. I owned a Knight Disc Elite a couple of years ago and man it was super accurate! At 100yards it held a 1inch group using 245gr and 100gr powder pellet. But I sold it. So I don't want to spend alot. I want to try to stay under or around $325 under is better. Let me know if you have any experience with any of these and the pros and cons you like.
1. Knight Shadow Stainless 50 cal
2. Traditions Pursuit XLT 50cal mossyoak stainless (Field and Stream review)
3. Knight KP1 Blued and Black 50cal

What ML/powder/ignition were you using this weekend?

Dont own any of those, but Ive been happy with my TC Omega. 209 primer has no real delay between when I pull the trigger and the gun goes boom. accurate too.

About 22 years ago I was given a CVA Frontier Kit. I put it together and it shoots fairly well but nothing over 60 yards or so using a patch and ball. I was using the musket cap CCI. It's just time to upgrade.

I shoot a CVA that was given to me not a 50 buck gun but i keep it clean and it lays the deer out. Out of the three you mentioned I would most likely go with the Knight KP1, if for no other reason than the fact you could switch barrels on it and go buy anything from a .22 to a 45-70.

I don't know where you could find a KP1 for under 325, most I have seen are around 4-500. Right now cabelas has a great deal on Remington Genisis muzzle loaders. Look in the bargain bin on their website. They are running a promotion right now, free shipping on orders over 150, and if you get a christmas catalog they have a 20.00 of cupon. The remingtons also have a $35 mail in rebate right now too. You could get the nicest Remington for around 175 shipped. I know it isn't on your list, but that is a pretty good price. BTW, I did check with Wingsupply and it looks like they don't sell muzzleloaders over the net.

In your Elite, what bullet was the 245, sounds like a Barnes spitfire. What powder were you using? I'm asking because I just bought an elite. thanks

I know very little about the ones on your list, but I really like my TC Omega and it should fall into your price range.

Thanks everyone. I will chew on your suggestions for awhile. I have been eyeing the Knights for awhile. And yes I did use the Barnes.

ksp771,
I owned a knight BK-92 several years ago and it was a very good gun. I'm a TC man now so I don't have any experience with the ones you listed other than handling a KP-1. It felt very heavy to me. Others have mentioed the Omega. I don't know if you would even consider TC but they have a $50.00 rebate right now on Omega Z5 package. With rebate you could get this package for around $250.00.

It'll blow your budget but, I'd save a little longer and get a Savage smokeless.--Mike Ezell

I have owned a CVA Optima pro with the fluted 28 inch barrel for 4 years now and it is a very good gun. It is a breakdown gun so cleaning is a snap (under ten minutes and my gun is perfectly cleaned after a shooting session). I always wanted a breakdown gun for this reason, but it is also I very good shooting gun. I can usually manage a 1 1/2-2 inch groups at a hundred yards using a 240 grain bullet and 100 grains of pelleted powder. The gun is rated for 150 grains of powder but I haven't tried it at this load. I have the nickel barrel and camo stock and you can get this gun for $350 or less. I would reccomend it to anyone. The only drawback is it's a heavy gun, but that hasn't bothered me yet.
