Went hunting with a buddy this morning on a public refuge. It is his second year turkey hunting and I am no expert either. Set up on some birds that gobbled their heads off at us while they were on the roost. When they hit the ground they stopped gobblin'. I continued to call occasionally. Ten minutes later I saw two white heads bobbin' through the woods about 80 yards away. They strutted to within 50 yards of me (a little closer to my buddy who was twenty yards to my left). They hung right their. Strutted around for about 5 minutes. I guess they thought the hens had left the area, and they started to walk the way they came. My buddy had a shot, but we think he shot low on the body. Oh well, we did extremely well for public land. He took the shot at 5 after 6 this morning. Warm weather is here. Everyone I have talked has said that the birds have been on for a few days here. Can't wait till tomorrow morning.

So, are you saying that he shot but was not able to make a recovery? If that is the case, hang in there. There will be more mornings such as this come your way.

A bad day hunting is better than a good day at work.

Tell your buddy, to "get that head down tight on the receiver".[:)]

Yes lab-lover we were not able to find the bird. Days like today are hard to come by on public lands that get as much pressure as that does, at least for me[:(].

VS You are right about the head down, but I think that the shot may have been a little too long.

Heard no gobbles this am until about 6:30 we chased him and got him coming our way but he hung up on a big creek that we did not know was there.
