With all this talk of drunkeness and at least one plea for less political banter, I thought I would review the new Schlitz beer. Supposedly the recipe for Schlitz is based on the formulation used back when Schlitz was the #1 selling beer in the US. Way back in the 1960s.

I have wanted to try this stuff ever since I saw they were going to start brewing it again. I was finally able to get a case this week. I had to ask my local beer guy to order it for me. He says he has more beers in stock than he can handle and does not want to carry any more. But he is allways willing to put in a special order for anyone who is interested.

After sampling a few of these beers over the last three days I will say they have the body and color of a typical American Pilsner. The hop load is what makes Schlitz special. You actually can smell and taste hops in this beer. No kidding. Top to bottom there is good hop aroma, flavor and bitterness. I have to say this is my new favorite American Macro-brew. If you have not tried it yet, give it a shot.

Good review. I read the story behind it's resurgence a few months ago and have been wanting to try some in a bad way. I just assumed that it is not for sale anywhere locally yet, and admittedly I haven't even looked.:o

Next time I'm in the Liquor Barn, I'll ask. I hear that it has been getting rave reviews.

That line is gonna be tangled all to pieces on that reel, but looks like the guy doesn't really care.

Well, I made a special trip to the Liquor Barn and came out empty handed. They said that they have had lots of request but they are not able to get it yet.:( I hope they can get it by spring as I have already switched mostly over to bourbon for the cooler months. Today is a beer day though, at least until the sun goes down and it cools off.:D

Rave reviews is probably a bit much. But it is good. My new favorite Macro-brew.

Labwild,
I purchased mine at Yellow Rose in Cynthiana, KY. If you want a case give them a call. Or you may want to ask your local beer store to make and order for you.

I am amazed that Liquor Barn does not have it? Heck I am only 30 minutes north of Lexington, I thought for sure they would have some.

I was surprised too when I looked down that virtual WALL of beers from all over the world, and nothing. I didn't press them on the issue, but I probably should have.

I have had more than my share of Schlitz. Used to get laughed at for drinking it, excluding PBR, I would drink shlitz or busch light anyday for the price. I also used to like Falls City beer.....
