Was it something Kevin Harvick said?
Harvick and rival NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Carl Edwards argued and scuffled today in the garage at Lowe's Motor Speedway (http://lowesmotorspeedway.com/) near Charlotte, N.C., site of the next Cup race Saturday night, the Associated Press reported (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jrbf4p-Yhevsmi31-SYLN0FJprmQD93N8B480) witnesses as saying.
At one point Harvick shoved Edwards, who stumbled onto the hood of Harvick's car, and the two had to be separated, the witnesses said.

The fight came four days after Edwards triggered a huge crash at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZkKgKHkWgE) that collected Harvick and 11 other cars. Edwards, who had been hanging near the back of the field most of the race, nudged the Ford of teammate Greg Biffle in the closing stages, sparking the accident.
That prompted the outspoken Harvick to say (http://www.latimes.com/sports/motorracing/la-spw-peltz8-2008oct08,0,4647548.story) that Edwards had been "sitting back there riding around like a pansy," and that if Edwards "had been racing all day, maybe he would have known how long the front of his car was."
Edwards confirmed the two argued but wouldn't get into the details.
Harvick, who was unavailable for comment, knows a thing or two about NASCAR brawls. In the summer of 2007, for instance, he got into a shoving match with Juan Pablo Montoya after the two crashed at Watkins Glen, N.Y.

Witnesses said Edwards approached Harvick in the garage stall housing Harvick's #33 Chevy and engaged in conversation. Following what a witness called a heated discussion, Harvick turned to walk away and Edwards grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him around. According to reports Harvick then shoved Edwards in retaliation, forcing Edwards onto the hood of the #33 Chevy. #33 crew chief Rick Ren pointed to a dent in the hood where he said Edwards landed. Others on site then proceeded to separate the drivers, and witnesses said Edwards was grabbed around the neck in a headlock by Harvick's motor-home driver, Jeff Smith. No punches were thrown, witnesses said. NASCAR did not immediately comment on the issue. Edwards and Harvick were not immediately available to comment. Witnesses claim the verbal exchange Thursday was in reference to a handwritten note Edwards left in a seat on Harvick's airplane following the AMP Energy 500 last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The note facetiously thanked Harvick for disparaging comments he made toward Edwards on ABC following a multi-car wreck on Lap 174 of 188, which was triggered when Edwards tapped teammate Greg Biffle. Harvick was collected in the incident.(ESPN)(10-9-2008)

Edwards is becoming a prick...

I don't understand where that comment come from. He openly admitted to being the cause of the wreck on Sunday and apologized for doing so. How many other drivers would have done the same thing?

Sums it up perfectly.

Seems like success has gone to Edwards head. Maybe he was a jerk all along and he just hid it well, either way I wish they had knocked each other out.

CONCORD, N.C. -- Photographs of the scuffle between Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick show a more physical confrontation than witnesses described, with Edwards at one point grabbing Harvick by the throat.

The two NASCAR stars argued during Thursday's practice when Edwards confronted Harvick in his garage stall at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The photographs, obtained Saturday by the Associated Press, show the two drivers clutching each other as their conversation grew heated.

In the five different frames, Edwards is shown grabbing Harvick by the throat, and Harvick pushing him off him and onto the hood of Harvick's car.

Witness accounts said the two argued, Harvick turned to walk away from Edwards, and Edwards grabbed his shoulder to turn him back around. Witnesses said Harvick responded by shoving Edwards onto the car, and crew members rushing in to separate the two.

Edwards allegedly was put in a headlock by a Harvick team member as the drivers were separated.

"It's pretty well-documented everything that happened," Harvick said Friday. "Best thing I can tell you is we were in our pit stall and just protected our turf."

Both Edwards and Harvick were called before top NASCAR officials before the start of Saturday night's race to discuss their feud.

"NASCAR just wanted to make sure everything is cool, and they left here walking side-by-side together and talking," spokesman Jim Hunter said. "We just wanted to hear them say `it's over' and they did."

Hunter said the two drivers met with NASCAR president Mike Helton, vice president of competition Robin Pemberton and Sprint Cup Series director John Darby. It was noted that the two raced each other without incident in Friday night's Nationwide Series race, when Edwards finished fifth and Harvick sixth while running near each other for most of the event.

"When it comes right down to it, they are professionals," Hunter said.

There were no incidents between the drivers Saturday night in the Sprint Cup race, but it was another bad race for Edwards. While Harvick finished 13th, Edwards was 33rd after ignition problems and dropped to fourth in the points standings, 168 behind Jimmie Johnson.

"I can guarantee you that if I had the week to do over again, the last seven days would be a lot different," Edwards said.

Edwards and Harvick had been squabbling since last Sunday, when Edwards triggered a 12-car crash that took out several championship contenders at Talladega Superspeedway. Edwards immediately accepted blame for the accident.

Harvick was among the drivers most critical of Edwards and his strategy, which had been to run in the back of the field during the early part of the race to avoid danger, then charge to the front when the win was on the line.

At the time of the accident, Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing teammates Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth were racing for the lead. All three wrecked, as did Harvick, who called Edwards "a pansy" for his race strategy.

Edwards then delivered a sarcastic thank-you note to Harvick's plane after the race.
