Well the wife and I took the kids to Cincinnati this weekend to do the zoo, aquarium and childrens museum. We decided to eat at Joe's Crab Shack saturday evening. When we were waiting to be seated in walked two Marines fresh out of basics, in their dress blues. I greeted them and told them to go ahead and take our table instead. They thanked me but turned us down. We happened to get seated next to them and the wife said send them a beer. It was obvious they were under age. I decided to pick up their meal in thanks for their commitment to our country. They were very appreciative of the gesture and stopped by the table to thank us. They were from Camp Lejeune and were getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. I didn't catch their names but wanted for all of us to wish them well!

Maybe they ought to change the law so that the drinking age is 21, or with an active military ID? It might even help with recruitment.

You sir, are a good American. I salute the gesture you made toward our fine servicemen! If more Americans did things like this, ours would be a much better country! Thanks for what you did and God bless those young men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can remember years ago sitting in a lounge at the St. Louis Airport waiting for my flight to S. Korea. A nice older guy sat next to me and we talked a bit, he ended up buying me about a case of beer and a nice dinner. He had served in Korea during the conflict and when it was time to catch my flight he handed me a business card and he was a big wig with Marathon oil. I sent him a Christmas card for a couple of years. Super nice guy and this experiance was great compared to those that were spit on coming home from Vietnam..... Now that i am out of the service, I still send a couple cards to the Dear Abby Christmas card deal for the soldiers overseas...

How would you deal with the people if they spit on you because you were in Viet Nam

Along with not being able to drink a beer they can't even buy a pistol, They can pack one around while in service but can't go buy one. Thats what really pisses me off!

Excellent post and just what I try to do when I see our boys out and about.

I knew a lot of my dad's friends before and after they went to Vietnam. None of them came home the same. Imagine what they lived through and still don't talk about......
