Got to go on a quick one this evening. We ended up at a farm we had'nt hit for a while, we try to mix it up to keep the preasure down. We got setup in a fencerow overlooking a huge pasture with a very deep hollow on one side. Set the caller up about 40 yards in front of us, put our backs to the fencerow, and let err rip. Led out with old lucky # 13 again called a few minutes then pause, repeated that a few times bumping the volume up little at a time. Then gave about 3 minutes rest, and switched to #12. That did'nt take long. In just about 1 minute I muted, looked to my left and saw a coyote locked onto the jack-in-thebox. Out about 80 yards or so trying to figure things out. Well she did'nt get to make her mind up cause she caught a 50 grainer right in the side of her throat, ((the only thing sticking up above the grass besides her head.)) EEEEEEooooooh that was a nasty hole!!!!!! So this makes Doug the hittman/rockstar # 41. Well here's the hero, and my little girl trying to steal his thunder. http://i34.tinypic.com/minbbl.jpg

Thanks for the intrest. We like it when people ask questions, it makes us feel like we know more than we actually do!
As far as the wound go's that gapeing wound you see is the direct result of a 50gr. Nosler flung out of a Browning Eclipse chambered in 22-250. That is probably alittle more damage than usual, most shots are in the chest. The decoy is the bomb, I set it up even if it's gonna be a howling session. Any time you can get the attention away from you, it's a good thing. Some stare at it, some rush it, hell I think some would have ate it if they had'nt got shot first. Before I bought the thing I used a $2.00 stufffed rabbit with a spring mounted on a stake, and shook it with monofiliment on a fishing reel. That worked very well, but you had to be careful. The movement of twiching the fishing line could get you busted.

We usually ditch em! Last I heard a GOOD hide was worth about $13, I won't skin em for that. Things are tight around here but not that tight yet! I got started hunting these things 6 or 7 years ago. I used to rabbit hunt allot, had two good mature dogs and a nice litter of pups in the back yard. Coyotes picked em off one by one, they ended up getting 3 out of 5 till I caught em in the act! Me being the type to hold a long grudge I started trying to hunt them, and ended up with a new VERY addictive hobbie.

K-9,

Are you selling your furs to a local dealer or is that the Canadian Auction price? My dad was getting quite a bit more last year but he ships his direct to Canada. Our OH & NY fur may be of better quality than down here. Maybe that is a reason for the price. What do you think?

I hav'nt sold any. A friend of mine that traps told me that a couple years back. I figured if they only bring 13 bucks I would'nt wast my time. That was local price too! I'm sure the northern animals are worth more, colder weather = thicker coats. I may check in on that though, we have wasted some really good looking furs!:( Thanks for the heads up!

Don't quote me but I believe he was getting upwards of $40 per pelt at the Canadian market.
