As said before im new to trapping. I have read the regulation's,and it read's nothing larger than #2 foothold, dry land. I also read in some other trapping book's, a #3 is preffered for coyote, the #2 is too small.
What do you guy's use for yote's? If #2's did you work on them any upgrade on spring's?

Number #3's are illegal for dry-land sets in KY. The preferred size for coyotes in my area is a 1.75. I've got Sleepy Creek coil traps, but Victor's are good too.

Use a #2 coilspring with 4 springs. Most traps have 2 unless you add 2 more yourself or pay the extra $$$ for a 4 spring trap. 1.75's are okay but go with a #2 and you'll have all the strength you need.

Thank's ,

Snare, I bought 38 #2 VICTOR'S the other day. All were used, dye'd and waxed. I noticed that about 6 or 7 have four coil's,the rest just have two. I guess set the 4 coil's where I have a chance on a coyote. I purchased them with no knowledge on trapping, but I figure three dollar's each, I couldnt go wrong. I looked at some new they are going between seven and ten dollar's.
I just started this year, and I cant wait until next. Thank's everyone for the information.

The 2 coiled traps will work just fine for holding a coyote. The 4 coiled are just a little faster. Try to get with an experienced trapper to show you how to modify your traps. Pan tension, swivels, etc... are more important than the number of springs.
