We're getting pounded right now. Sunny but extremely windy. Just counted at least 9 limbs/trees down from my front porch. Power has been flickering the last few hours.

blowing like crazy here. just had a big locust split and fall across the road in front of my house. got it moved but I am sure there will be more. can't believe I still have power.

I just talked to my mom and dad in Muhlenberg county. They had been in New Mexico visiting my brother and his family. They left dallas yesterday, just in front of Ike, drove in wind all day, stopped in Arkansas because the interstate was littered with trees. They came through dyersburg Tn this morning with trees and barns/buildings down everywhere. When they got home to Greenville this morning, they found a big tree down across the driveway and the roof to the cattle barn scattered across the pasture:eek:. No one around there has power

I've got 1/3 of a Bradford pear and 2/3 of a flowering crab apple down here at my house.

My #*$& chainsaw quit about 5 minutes into starting on them.:mad::mad:

Here I sit with a giant mess and no way to clean it up.

My power was off for a little over an hour. My mother's has been down all morning long.

From what I've seen around Murray and north of town where I live.... just about everyone got some damage. Roofs & trees seem to have got the brunt of it. Several roads blocked... scattered power outages and I've even got someones inflatable kids pool in my back yard. Dont have a clue who it belongs to or where it came from... my nearest neighbors say it does'nt belong to them. :D

I've got some roof damage to the back of my place. This roof... over the entire house was replaced about 3 years ago when I had some storm damage. I know it could have been a lot worse... but the thought of dealing with insurance companies again on a roof claim brings another emotion to mind.

Went dove hunting yesterday evening and had a slaughterfest. Hunted in a perfect setup because of the wind. They would fly up from a river bottom to a corn field that stretched along this ridge. As soon as they would come up to the top of the ridge, the wind would hit them and they were like suspended in the air. We all left with our limit, even though it took me about 3 boxes of shells to do it.

Auk and I live between two outlets of Lake Cumberland...the wind is fierce here right now... looks like the rain is not far behind. I went outside and moved all of my flowers from their hangers and adjusted our lawn furniture so that it wouldn't blow in our neighbor's yard.

Rain just started pouring here....

Lots of tree and roof damage here. Not enough rain to make a good spit.

pentail, I can officially say the last of my self-pruners hit the ground this morning. Should I cut it off at the ground or leave a few feet of it and hope it sprouts back out like a maple? It's broken mostly off about 4 feet above the ground but a few limbs are still on it. The tree is 15 years old.

I attempted a leisure day of goofing off, spent some time in Lexico with Art for lunch and a trip through the local super sporting goods mart. Ran into whiterubi on the trip as well. Right after I left Lexico the work phone started ringing......callouts for power outages. Only two problems so far, but I expect more as the day goes on. Wind gusts here have not been too bad as far as I can tell, maybe a few over 50.

Just got power back here...nothing more than a thrown breaker just up the road a bit but it took them 5 hours to get around to it with all the other outages in the area. Lost one small maple across the driveway...took 10 minutes to cut it up and move it out of the way. I have a brother in Houston that both his house and my niece house in Sugarland got severe roof damage out of Ike. Sis just called from Owensboro and said half her roof is gone also...one storm three family members 1000 miles apart... one storm and three roof's gone. Calmed down here now...cleanup day tomorrow.

doug,

I would just cut it off at the ground and paint the stump with brush killer. The suckers that would sprout back up are even weaker than the tree was, once they got some size to them, they would split if you looked at em wrong.

Sorry you guys are still having some problems. Ike was an unusually large storm. Quess it took longer to breakup. Hope there have been no tornadoes associated with the Storm's passing. Prayers sent to all.

I just got in from hauling all of my mess off.

Tha' Hat has a big tree down in his back yard that we pruned on a little bit. The way that it is stuck in the top of another tree, I wasn't going to be the one to cut it loose. He's calling in a professional for the rest of it.

My in-laws have two large hickories down at their house and they are in Florida with my wife and daughter. One of them is blocking both entrances to their garage. Luckily, it didn't quite make it to the house.

There are trees down everywhere around here. Definitely the most widespread damage that I have ever seen.

I was at an urgent care with my son( bad ankle sprain) when the storm hit. Lost power right after the x-ray and was told to go to the hospital because it looked broken. The emergency room was full of people with bleeding heads from inspecting trees and getting hit by branches. All the traffic lights were down and there were power lines and traffic signals laying across the road.

Power is out to 237,000 homes here in Louisville. LGE said it could be more than a week to get everyone back on. I guess they are already spread thin because of the hurricane.

We talked to some of the state road crew that worked a tree top that was laying in the road near the house and they said there were trees down everywhere. One guy said they were simply trying to get the roads clear today and would be back sometime to run the debris through the chipper. Said it might be a week or so before they got to it though.

We were up about 6:45 am watching those pine trees swaying. Our house sits in among lots of pine trees and others. Most of our property is treed with a couple acres of grassy field behind the house. We moved both vehicles out into the middle of the field this morning to keep them from getting pounded by falling limbs (or worse). My daughter had fun watching the chickens get blown all over the place.

Close to 10:00 am I went down to the basement for a short phone cord to use because the power had been bumping so bad we didn't trust our cordless phones for calling. On the stairs down I noticed a lot of water standing. Looks like our acidic well water finally ate through one of the short copper lines feeding a water heater. We're all CPVC except for short lengths going in and out of the water heaters. It was a little pinhole but it was a lot of water.

About the time I shut off the water, opened the garage door on the side, and started squeegying water out, the power went off for good. This was exactly 9:50 according to the Petter wall clock in the kitchen. Fortunately I had all the supplies I needed to replace the copper piping so I had everything back together in a short time. By then the wind had died down but the power was still out. We had no big limbs or trees down but there are small branches everywhere. We battened down the hatches yesterday in preparation so we didn't have too much stuff blown around.

After sitting in the truck listening to the local news (TV channel 6 analog audio carrier is FM 87.75 MHz) and hearing them say that West KY Rural Electric was saying 24-48 hours before all power would be restored, we decided to make an ice run. We had also been listening to the scanner all day on batteries. It had been nonstop trees and power lines down all day so we figured we'd better make contingency plans for the refrigerator contents.

I've got 1/3 of a Bradford pear and 2/3 of a flowering crab apple down here at my house.

On the way to Duncan's Market to get ice, we saw two places where Bradford Pears had just completely split, one of which was completely covering the truck belonging to a guy living on our road. My wife's exact words when we got out of the truck at Duncans, "Remind me never to get a Bradford Pear tree."

At about 8:00 pm we heard some West KY Rural Elect. guys on the scanner say they had Irvin Cobb Resort back on and they were heading toward Paradise and Boatwright... our area, so we figured we were gonna be lucky. We were. Power came back on at 8:45pm. Those guys are our heroes. I was not looking forward to making coffee on the camp stove.

Pretty smart pick up on his part. My SIL just got back about 830 to the ville and all power out and she had been to 3 stores so far and they didn't have any candles or flashlights. Could get pretty ugly up there if they don't get the power back soon.

That was nuts! I've never seen wind that strong for that long before. A piece of the roof of my neighbor's barn smashed out a window in my daughter's room. Thankfully she wasn't in there at the time. Still no power, probably be a while from what they're saying.

280,000 said to be without power now. 1,100 lines down in the city. Can you imagine what a Cat 5 hurricane would have done? We really are helpless when it comes to mother nature I guess. I mean in the whole scheme of things, 60mph winds are nothing.

We lost power around 6 AM Sunday, and its likely to be a few more days was what I was told. Lots of folks gonna lose alot of groceries for sure, Hell we'd just stocked up Sat afternoon. What a waste

Sure, Ike was a bigger deal than that ice storm as a whole, but in KY it was pretty similar in terms of people without power. Only difference being that during the ice storm it was 35 degrees, not sunny and 80.;)

I know it's easier with help, but back in 03 there were KU trucks all over. I watched them actually turn the power back on to this neighborhood. Now, I didn't frisk them for their I.D so maybe they were contractors driving KU trucks and wearing KU clothes, I don't know and I don't care.
