Has anyone noticed the increase in KY jailers being arrested within the past few months? Elliott CO.'s jailer was arrested after being charged with rape. He was transporting a female from Sandy Hook to Boyd Co. I thougth that a female officer/jailer had to be present when transporting a female...??? The Barren Co. jailer was arrested on 40 counts of third degree sexual abuse...40 counts!!! And, the Boubon Co. jailer/deputy jailer were arrested on tampering with evidence and official misconduct after an inmate had committed suicide in the jail.
What in the world has gotten into people?

I think out of all 3 cases, the Barren Co. case was the most surprising. I don't know all of the facts, but 40 counts was shocking to me. I went to the jailers conference last year, but I don't recall any of the 3 jailers...there was a lot of people there. If they are guilty of the crimes they were charged with, I hope they are reprimanded to the fullest extent of the law.

I think that kind of thing has always happened. But now in our "media rich" society, striving for a competitive story, we actually hear about it.

Being from Bourbon Co. I am not suprised. That has been going on for years. Wasn't that long ago that some lady got busted for getting rid of traffic tickets. But a lot of new people have taken over certain positions down there. They seem to be slowly cleaning things up.

Anybody can run for Jailer, that is an elected position. Doesn't make it right, what is going on, but a thug is a thug, if you elect a thug then you should not have any great expectations. The bad apples tarnish the whole group. Sad:(

Ive been saying this for years..Kentucky needs to do away with electing law enforcement positions..Its foolish...I consider myself to be a corrections proffesional and the things Ive seen go on in jails leaves me in disbelief ....You cant take a yahoo off the street with no exp and expect him to run a jail or a sheriffs office correctly...

The Elliott county jailer is a real piece of work. He will take people in his custody to other jails even though they aren't breathing. Seen it myself. Truth is he doesn't want to set in the emergency room with them since they are technically under arrest.

They should immediately rejected the inmate. most of the time when I was deputy if a prisoner looked sick and/or injured we would refuse to admit them and have the officer take them to the hospital and get a note from the doctor releasing them from care before admitting them.
As for the Barren Co. Jailer it is hard to believe he has done what he is accused of as I know this man for many years. I guess I won't believe it until the actually convict him of this. It is rumored that this was politically motivated.

I agree with this for sure......I have never understood this. When my house was broken into last year the deputy that came to investigate was the most incompetent dipstick I have seen since enos.................I have alot of respect for athorities but this guy was a complete idiot. He had been in law enforcement all of three days  Its a joke.

I think i remember that case. Kid was booked on some sort of minor charge, either DUI or misdemeanor drugs or something. If I remember right jail personnel threw the kid in with some hard-core types and told them to have fun with the fresh meat. They tore his bowels out with a toilet plunger.
If I'm remembering it right I hope those guys have really huge boyfriends in jail.

This is exactly what they did. Screwed up thing is the ambulance is directly across from the jail and the idiot drove right past it and supposedly straight to the hospital.

It's not just jailers. You hear about cops, doctors, politicians (OK, nothing new there), teachers, and just about any other profession you put your faith into getting into trouble more and more these days. The old saying "you can't judge a book by its cover" has never been more true.

What about judges. I know some that come in high to work (at the bench sentencing people). Talking about a crapshoot!!

Your saying do away with part of the constitution, thats not a good practice.
The whole point of the elected officers (Sheriff, constable, jailer) that our constitution provides for is so the voting community, the people can choose and elect a good honest candidate for the job. And if they dont do their job, or abuse their authority, they can be voted out by the people. So get out and make informed voting decisions (not aimed at anyone), thats what can help.
Yes, people can become corrupted and they can be voted out. If there was no election, you'd be stuck with with the crook.

It is a mess for sure that has been going on for a long time. I know a sherrif that makes more that the president of the U.S. He has been in office for the past 35 years. Heck, he even stole money, confessed about it to the public and said "if you re-elect me I will pay it back". Well he got re-elected. If you saw him out in public you would never know that he is a sherrif. Plus he is 80 years old.
Virginia does not elect judges. I tell you one thing, you mess up in VA your'll get put away for a while. They don't mess around!!!

Constitution or not I dont believe that jobs requiring speacilized training should be had by any Tom,Dick or Harry....I had to train contless hours to make sure I can do the job, yet any yahoo with enough money and friends can get elected to do it... ...Its not corruption, its ineptitude!! They just dont know what the hell they are doing..I personally saw that a sheriff had to call a deputy to write a ticket out for him...I mean come on..Our sheriffs office was run so bad at one time that out of 25-30 deputys on about 4-5 were even acadamy trained...They would lay off the deputys befor the time limit was up then rehire them afterwords so they could get out of paying for the acadamy..So for the longest time we had untrained LEO's running around the county, setting in parking lots talking to teenage girls..I grit my teeth whenever I think about it...The sheriff has an unbelievable ammount of power in their county..Not just law enforcement but taxs, licenses etc...We need trained proffesionals to take care of things like that...Not Joe bobs second cousins, half brother with a big family and lots of money..In eastern,Ky voters are foolish..When we have a corrupt offical they dont get voted out..they basically get a lifetime term because they have everyone over a barrel by then..."Your family better vote or the will lose their entertainers license"....Your family better vote because I have your nephew in the jail"..."Your family knows I can make it easy or hard"...etc,etc...etc..Yes, its that bad...

This is sad but does not surprise me. There are crooks and bad apples in every walk of life. Another thing you should question is why there are no credentials required to be an elected school board member who hires superintendents. Talk about a good ol' boy system gone bad.

I agree! Same with school board members. We have some real winners on our school board  Almost all of them ran unopposed too.

KYBoy, I know you have a point. I've seen guys fail out of the academy(they do weed) and sent home, only to get put back out on the street. Most departments are hard up and getting sent to the academy can take a while (supposed to have up to one year to get basic training). There will always be bad apples and "good ole boy syndrome".
BTW, legit corrupt official complaints can go to the state attorney generals office. When you get no where with local law enforcement, try the state level.

what gets me is when an leo or some elected official gets caught up in their bull ---- they get suspended with pay.what is the use in susppending them if they are gonna just sit back on there crooked arses and get paid for it.what also gets me is alot of these so called leos will go out one night and bust people for dui and the next night there drunk driving themselfs.but when they get caught they pretty much get a slap on the wrist and its forgotten about.they should receive worst punishment then your regular citizen because they are suppose to uphold the laws not break them.and if an leo is caught for dui he should be permenently banned from any leo position.i have alot of respect for le officers and the jobs they do.but the crooked ones need to be treated just as anyone else who breaks the law if not worse when they get caught.jmo
